The whole point of this is the manner in which he said it. If Evra said dont touch me South American to which Suarez replied why black? Would be racist.

In France I very much doubt you could call a black man Negro. Just like I doubt Suarez calls Glen Johnson, Negro.

The age of consent in Uruguay is something daft like 14. Would it be ok for Suarez to have sex with a 14 year old here because hes allowed to at home?

Nah.
So if Evra says exactly what you say he said (Don't touch me South American) you think that is fine? Why is that? Because you, a friendless (at least on this forum) White, English (suppositions) person do not understand the connotations it would have to a Latin American, that is fine to say?

Wrong.

Its just as racist as an English calling a Spaniard a Spic, or an Italian a Wop. And if you don't think xenophobia equals racism, well the UN disagrees with you World Conference against racism
and the FA disagrees with you apparently
"Rule E3(2) In the event of any breach of Rule E3(1) including a reference to any one or
more of a person's ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, faith, gender, sexual
orientation or disability (an "aggravating factor")"

I don't see the relevance of France in the issue, unless you are linking it to Patrice (I want to argue with you in Spanish) Evra in some way? In France the term 'Noir' is used for a black person. Negro does not exist in the French Language.

In Uruguay, the age of consent is 15 in general terms, but they are quite enlightened in legal terms as anyone under 18 may be 'corrupted' by an older person and therefore it is possible to bring a lawsuit against someone for corrupting a minor. So what is you deluded point BraindeadOpinion?

Love how in the comments people are claiming it's perfectly alright for him to use the word because he is black. So it's alright for them to use it but we can't because the colour of our skin, sounds like racism to me!

That's the way it often is though. You even hear black rappers using the word "******" in their lyrics.

You really don't get it do you. Yes it would be my fault, but I would learn what I can and cannot say in a foreign country. Some people laugh at how petty a law in another country may be but that is their law and you have to respect it, otherwise you shouldn't go. You are the ignorant one!
I know I'm a bit late with this but I've just come on line.
Are you really suggesting that on going to work in another country you'd say to yourself: " Hmm, the first thing I'd better do is get a list of all the words in this country that I'm not allowed to say, 'cos you never know when I might inadvertently say something in my own language that sounds like something else in their language and someone may choose to find it offensive even though I don't mean it to be."?
Yeah, right.

Yeah, right.

So sitting down and doing a couple hours research on a country's culture before you visit is too much to ask of someone? Especially if that person was going to live and work in the country. It's really not a huge task. By failing to do this Saurez now has an 8 match ban.

Ignorance is not an excuse. It's just something lazy people like to hide behind.

I'm completely mystified - you are saying that a completely neutral word (as all words are) should be removed from the lexicon as it might offend someone if used? That is not far off suggesting the burning of classical literature because it might reinforce racial stereotypes (Uncle Tom's Cabin, or The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, for example). I mean, come on, even Mein Kampf isn't a banned book...

I have not said anything of the sort.

Now you're just being silly.

This once again, is being taken out of context - The word 'Negro' is not a racist word and this was accpeted by the FA and the committee - The way in which it is used can be classed as racist (Though for the life of me I can't understand why!) If he had called him a 'n!gger' then that would have been unacceptable...If you insist on commenting on our threads at least have the decency of getting fact straight first!

The way Suarez used the word was racist in the UK. Hence the 8 game ban.

I have black friends and I would never dream of calling any of them a negro. As I know they would be offended.

The worst part of "Racism" is that it is only a minority that are genuinely racist and dislike someone because of skin colour.

Most people ever convicted or punished for saying a "Racist word" tend to be in arguments... A la Evra v Suarez in which case its worse to reference skin colour than someone's family. But in an argument doesn't everyone just say what they think will cut the person they are arguing with deepest?

This whole idea you can't call someone certain names but others can and its offensive to say certain words is childish. We don't really care about skin colour just the bullshit grey area that accompanies "Racism".

If a word is illegal it is, a black person can press charges against evra for using it as they can if a white person uses it, it is not down to interpretation, if evra called someone a ****** in england he is breaking the law even if he is black also.

Yeah, right.

I do :)

I buy I book of offence phrases before I go into any country to ensure I offend the locals correctly. It would be rude not to <ok>

Anyone else bored of this **** ?

Quote from Suarez Apologises article

"whom he was found guilty of calling a "negro" goes the article. Totally untrue and definately something to be taken to court if BBC do not retract it.

He was not found guilty of what the BBC say and Suarez did the decent thing that he didn't have to do and apologised for any offence that may have been caused, a decent politically correct thing to do, he'd get slated then if he said it thenand he is getting slated now for saying it., fair play to him, and I can understand why he has not done it until now, to do that with a judgement pending would be in the eyes of the FA an admission of guilt.

The BBC have pretty much branded Luis Suarez a racist and have incorreclty reported on this to the point where Suarez actually has a case against the BBC I would think.

If I were Luis I would be considering legal action against the BBC for their reporting on this as it has been way off the mark

Take your LFC tinted glasses off, he has been found guilty, and sentenced as well. He himself has admitted it and published an apology for any offence caused.
Posters like yourself are now flogging a dead horse just move on, it`s done.

Haha
That reminds me of an old Python sketch where a foreign visitor is going up to people reading things like "Can I fondle your buttocks?" out of a deliberately badly translated phrasebook.

Yeah, I'm bored with it all. The only thing that prompts me to continue is all the people coming out of nowhere to join in with pillorying the player and the club when they don't give a toss about the situation and are using it for a bit of opportunist point-scoring.

Anyway Eric, How you doing? Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year (oops, just remembered the scores).

Yeah I had a good one Sir, yourself ? ( I'm ignoring the results part <ok> )

I've been trying to read but ignore but some of the ****, from all different sets of fans, is hard to ignore - SKY has just been told to go support someone else if he can't see that Suarez is innocent - what a joke.
