His challenger Mohammed bin Hammam is being investigated by FIFA, following accusations of bribery by both him and Jack Warner.

A week before the vote for the new presidency, rather convenient for Blatter.
 
FIFA statement:

"On May 24 2011, FIFA executive committee member and Concacaf general secretary Chuck Blazer reported to Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke possible violations of the Fifa code of ethics allegedly committed by officials.

"In particular, the report referred to a special meeting of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), apparently organised jointly by Fifa vice-president Jack A. Warner and Fifa executive committee member Mohamed Bin Hammam, which took place on May 10 and 11 2011.

"This meeting was linked to the upcoming FIFA presidential election.

"In view of the facts alleged in this report, which include bribery allegations, Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke, in compliance with art. 16 of the Fifa code of ethics, yesterday requested the Fifa ethics committee to open ethics proceedings."
 
On the program Lord Triesman said that 3 members of the world cup descision team asked him for 'benefits', one asked for a knighthood and the Qatar bid team paid something like £1m to African members of Fifa.
It's all corrupt but I think most sport is, too much money involved and nobody can handle the responsibility of looking after it!
 
I hate FIFA.

I can't think of anybody I hate more than Blatter. Jordan is a close 2nd but he really is a ****.

The sooner that old bastard is dead the better.

As they said here in Oz after our failed bid, without a representative we are cactus. We will not be wasting any more money on future bids.
Like the Eurovision Song Contest (which Australia will be entering next year through it's satellite state in Earls Court popularly known as Kangaroo Valley) it belongs to the select few now.
 
I really dont understand why these men from lesser football nations have so much power anyway. I read that this ethics committee will be headed up by a chap from Namibia.

To clean it up there needs to be a representative from every nation in FIFA. Surely with more reps there will be less of an opportunity to collude
 
Ethics committee? They need a northerner, not thum home countith type.

I don't think there's any dispute over the fact that money was handed over, it's whether or not that money was a bribe that's being investigated.

I'm not entirely sure what else it could be, unless all the Caribbean football officials are claiming they happen to have a birthday on the same day and it was a pressie.
