Absolutely agree mate. I'd made a life choice in my 50's that though I was well paid, had company car, bonuses, private medical insurance, did I want to keep doing what I was doing, were all the benefits worth it?

And then you actually look at it all, and realise you can't take it all with you when you die, and that life itself is more precious, after some mad fook drove in the back of me.

So I switched my whole life around, never regretted it for one day, still had a great job, but I could work local, not get up at silly o'clock, not get home at stupid o'clock, not have to dodge the mad bastards on the M25 every day, could have all my weekends free, basically enjoy life more, holidays etc...the only thing I lost was the extra money.

Anyway the point I'm making is yes, you are right, if wages were improved, my choices like many people's choices might have been made sooner.

Thats the way the US handle it, by putting the onus on the customer to tip, thereby making up the shortfall in the employees wage.
Im not a fan of that method to be honest.
Also, I dont want to have to suffer an internal political dilemma every time I pop out for a burger and fries.

Fair play to you mate, your mum has a goodun in you. Although I'll not deny I laughed when you said she'd pissed off on holiday for 3 weeks, that's a cracker.

Funny you should say, my first thought when I was typing what you quoted of mine, was America! I absolutely hate their tipping system, just stick it on the fooking bill, then I don't have to question myself if I'm paying a fair tip.

My company make gym equipment, which is of course all made in China.
You should see the ****ing factories where they make our ****. I couldnt believe it when I went over.
Because the workers all live 6 hours away, they have to either LIVE in a barracks above the factory floor, in little bunks, or choose to take a 6 hour train trip each way every day, which is completely impractical, so most choose to stay and go home at weekends. The trains have no toilets, so you have to wear an adult nappy if you go on the train too, as a bonus.
ALso outside the barrack windows, there are bungee nets so that if people decide they wish to off themselves by taking a leap from the window, the nets bounce them back up again, because the suicide rate is so high.
All this for what probably works out in our money as less than £30 a week.

was my bro who was dealing with it, he's gotten pissed off with her and normally gets the shorter end of the stick being older and living 5 mins away.

I'm having to drive 2 hours to get to hers the next 3 weekends then drive back to do my day job.

we are already (cheap fashion, cheap food from overseas). Where its gone wrong is fuel prices have gone mental, importing all that **** costs more and to be fair we have been getting **** super cheap for ages and there is no more give and no more fat to trim (imo)

A question that is way above my pay grade as I like to say at work.

The only option is that the government need to stick a cap on essentials (fuel, energy and certain items of food) and then take the rough with the smooth.
