I do love how people ignore the fact he got teams like Wigan, Sunderland and Birmingham way above the relegation zone and into midtable.

Easy to ignore things that contradict your opinion. Though I expect nothing less from some of the prats on this board.
I'd rather look at what he's done with us rather than other teams 10 years ago

Bruce is very good with defence, but you need more than that to keep up now. We need a leader, if not the manager then someone in the middle of the pitch to energise people when it's needed.

Then you got to be impressed at what he has done name another manager in our history who has done as much.
I was impressed when he took us up the first time. Since then we had a lucky FA cup run, didn't give it a real go in Europe, scraped staying up and went down the following season, then just managed to get back up when it could have been much more comfortable. This all with a decent squad of players in the premier league and the best in the championship.

Well, he got Birmingham higher than Villa for the 1st time since the 70's, as they finished 13th and 10th and 12th before being relegated, got Wigan to 11th, Sunderland to 13th and even when sacked they were 16th, all positions higher than subsequent managers managed so I would say he definitely is a PL manager.
I'm not convinced by the comments Steve Harper made about the lack of focus on attacking during training, and that is borne out by the way we seem to retreat into our shells and see what the opposition have to offer, but overall, we could have far worse managers leading us in the Premier League

so just cos he finished in the top half of the table with a few teams we should have him as a manager?
"were relegated AGAIN"..................................."dont worry, he finished 10th with Birmingham"
times change and people change.
by that reckoning we should re-sign waggy to add to his 138 goals and Chillo can add to his 193 goals.
YAY you have solved our striker problem!

and "youre not convinced"? I bet you get in the way down at the training ground, seeing as you are there everyday

oh well disregard everything Ive said.. yes... be reactive instead of proactive
you dont mind getting relegated every season.

So none of that happened and he has never proved he can be a decent manager in the Prem?

Okay then.

Like I said, people like to ignore things that contradict their opinion.

As we haven't been relegated every season under Bruce, I struggle to see your point. Though there's no surprise there.

I'd be interested to see the record of a manager you propose as a replacement and that's liable to come here.

The worst thing that could happen to Bruce is for him to be sacked. That would hurt him more than anything. We as supporters owe him a huge vote of thanks, but thats as far as it goes. We progressed under him without a doubt, but we have also stood still, gone backward and now shuffled forward again. If those that love him respect him enough, let him go now, head held high, knowing as he says and loves saying 'that he left clubs in a better state than when he arrived'. We need someone who will take us up a level and unfortunately as SB had proved, thats beyond him despite having significant backing.

As it stands at the moment, my more immediate concern is getting the bastards that have alienated our club out.

Obviously he wants Alex Ferguson to come out of retirement, that's probably the only appointment that would please him.

In Patty's eyes, if we don't win the Prem next season, it will be a failure...

Just saying that Bruce is constantly underestimated as a manager- he has consistently got small (by PL standards) clubs into higher positions than either those he replaced or those that followed him. Whether Bruce goes or stays is not the main issue for me...unless we got David Moyes or someone, I doubt we would do much better. Much more important, in my view, is the Allams clearing off

I suppose you love the dogfights.
I said on a previous thread "I dream of midtable mediocrity"

it makes no difference if AA is here (or one of his spawn) they dont interfere with the team.

Id like Flores, the ex Watford boss, but whether he would travel north, Im not convinced.. but something has to change.

How does his record in the Premier league stack up?

Just had a squint round some Watford forums, and they don't seem too sad to see him go. Before he went, there a threads about him costing games with poor team selection.

Apologies, I've been busy down in London all weekend, supporting and celebrating my team rather than acting like a negative ****tard.

You seem to have ignored Bruce's past times in the Prem, haven't you?

Is finishing 10th, 12th and 13th at Birmingham not midtable mediocrity?
Is finishing 11th at Wigan the first season after Birmingham not midtable mediocrity?
Is finishing 13th at Sunderland after leaving Wigan not midtable mediocrity? (and he was sacked whilst Sunlan were midtable, coincidentally)

2 seasons out of around 10 seasons in the Prem ended in relegation.

He's spent more time in his managerial career in midtable of the Prem than at the bottom. FACT.

So did we under Bruce, you ****ing imbecile.

his PAST achievements have no bearing on his current ones,

Why do people continue to peddle this ridiculous statement. What was lucky about it? You can only beat what is in front of you. Do you really think other cup winners /finalists downplay their achievement? I doubt it.

Do agree with the European comments however. We went out with barely a whimper.
