His know how got us promoted and to the fa cup final and our first time in europe then made up for the relegation with another promotion his ineptness is quite a high standard can you imagine when he does it properly.
he isnt consistent enough enough for my liking. you lot are really convincing, but then I see the teams performance on the pitch. his ineptness is what comes out, He is the manager... he has final say on tactics and formation. that is one thing that he does have over PB.. he sometimes does have a plan B and can change tactics if its not working.
But there was at least 19 other inept managers that were obviously worse than bruce in the league so he was not that inept was he.
I really dont like SB,.. but as there isnt another manager out there that we can get, were stuck with that **** for the foreseeable future.
he is a chumpionship manager at best... PL? no last season proved that. I bet City will be circling the drain AGAIN next season. I dream of midtable mediocrity.
I like Steve Bruce - I like his character and I like him as our manager. Sure he could have done better (particulsrly in probably our only ever shot at Europe) but he also could have done a lot lot worse - in 3 of his 4 seasons he has at least matched my greatest hopes for our team (2 promotions and staying up / fa cup final) - I really hope he stays; he's brought me a large proportion of my best times in 30+ years as a city fan and on top of all of that he has dealt brilliantly with the extraordinary actions of our current owners.....Steve Bruce, Steve Bruce.
If he stays I'd like him to stop taking the front man off with 10 mins to go at 1-0 up.. it means no outball possible and invites extra pressure on the defence, I'm not sure Bruce has evolved in his tactics over the years to be flexible enough.. that said, he's been fantastic in most other areas
We are mid-table = because the league we are in is made up of the bottom 10 of the Premiership and the top 10 of the championship. I can't reasonably expect City to breach the top 10 in the Prem, and I would consider it a disaster if we were in the bottom half of the Championship. Being a mid-table team involves getting promoted some seasons, and getting relegated in others.
He's certainly changed his tune since Leicester won the league. Think a few on here were content with Bruce labelling us "Little old 'Ull, and that's all we'll ever be" but for me and I know others, it rankled pretty badly. Good to see he's opening his eyes.
Bruce should leave now on a high, with most peoples respect restored. He's a clever fella and should realise that he has done as much as he can for us and get out now.
If Wednesday had equalised in those last 5 minutes and the game went to ET we would have ended up playing Clucas as our only striker - we'd made all of our subs. That last 10 mins was crying out for Akpom to come on and chase everything down. Westwood twice launched the ball 20 yds from the half way line putting us under pressure immediately. Much as I like SB he's too negative - you can get away with it against Championship teams but as we found out previously not in the PL.
The dust hasn't settled enough for this thread but you and Patty are right, Championship with class players we can get away with it but not in the top league. It's incredible how he didn't figure out how to deal with the two matches close together scenario with the squad that we had all last season, you get the feeling we got away with it, what I would say is Brucey is a great manager in Cup type games and knockouts but not the league
That's an excellent quote, which is more the pity that it is often used in inappropriate situations; a very highly paid and struggling football manager being a classic example of that, it simply serves to diminish the efforts of those more deserving of its sentiment.
