I'm doing nothing more than repeating what Sky's Keith Downey said on the Roker Rapport podcast yesterday. He thinks that the big Barnsley striker is a no-go, but thinks there is a chance of getting this highly rated youngster in from Boro.

He also said we are trying to get a couple out of the door to fund new arrivals as well.

We are in for a busy week (hopefully)

Definitely, he's not even first choice a lot of the time. I believe Matthews is on a fair whack too although I'd keep him unless it was a daft amount. I don't think we need Catts anymore and especially not if we're signing Leadbitter who should be a straight upgrade.

They won't take a cut in wages, so I think we are stuck with them.
The speculation was that Ozturk would depart, and maybe McGeady

You're probably right, in an ideal world that's what I'd do but it's never that simple.

I'm not sure about letting either of those two go unless we're signing another CB or Ross has his eye on one of the youth team stepping up, we've got a lot of games coming up and we'll need at least four CBs for them. Supposedly Ozturk has been good for the past few games too.

Bryan Oviedo, one of Sunderland’s high earners from the previous regime, is attracting interest.

A number of overseas clubs, plus one from the Sky Bet Championship have made contact with Sunderland.

The Costa Rican international has been involved in the first team this season, but on wages more than five times of most of his teammates, Sunderland would be open to selling.

He’s a good player, his attitude has been fair, he shouldn’t be hard to shift.

He will be a good buy for many clubs and he’d go with best wishes.

I've been a bit disappointed by him this season, I thought he'd be far too good for league one but if the information I've just checked is correct, in thirteen games for us this season he's got no goals or assists and only a needless red card to his name. I haven't noticed him stand out in defence either.

No complaints about his professionalism though, for someone who's wanted to leave for a while he's been bang on attitude wise.

Would love to have Hume back in the squad.

Maybe he is up for moving on and that's why O9 has been kept there?

Didn't he assist Gooch's goal in the first game against Charlton? I thought he looked on a completely different level to everybody else on the pitch, that day.

4 assists mate. I remember one cross pinged right onto Maja's barnet against Shrewsbury, so good all Maja had to do was meet it with his head. Another was that sexy whipped in number right onto Gooch's heed last minute against Charlton who ran on to it with pace and it was like a bullet. Both perfect assists imo.

I think he's looked excellent this season personally but got sent off and had a few niggling injuries and Reece James has rightly retained his place after really looking the part.

Think his attitude has been fantastic this season and looked way better than this league but the club's health has to come first

Yeah that was Oviedo just checked it but the point stands that he hasn't stood out over James or Hume, especially Hume. You can see his quality but it doesn't seem to amount to very much, not for the wages he's on.

Nah probably agree with that. For me, he's a decent championship player but we are covered with James and Hume so it's a bit, meh! at the same time. Unless the big wages players are making a big impact then they have to go.

I wouldn't say he's been excellent in general but fair play if he's got four assists that's not bad going, I just went off the first stats site that google threw up.

I like both James and Hume so we're well served for his position and I think we could afford to sell him with little effect on the team, apart from the odd moment of quality he's not been solid enough. If he'd been that good we'd have had offers by now but it sounds we're shopping him around rather than fielding offers.

I think he was excellent early season with his run in the team but agree entirely about the other two lads. Oviado did stall after the sending off, his season has been stop start since with Niggles. Only 4 starts since October shows the effect of a bit of bad luck and stupidity when you've got two hungry, younger lads biting at your heels, desperate to impress and doing just that with their opportunities.

Given his wage, those lads have rendered him disposable rather than anything Oviado has done wrong for me like. It's a great selection problem to have if we can indeed find a buyer as it does wonders for our wage manoeuvrability to bring extra players in too

Like I said happy to see him go and wish the best. But remember his early season form vividly linking up well with Maguire. Much of it right in front of me next to Raw(become big a fan of those seats :p)

He'll get the best wishes from my but aye, sell sell sell.

I liked the Barnet striker against Brentford in the cup, he was all over the pitch and causing trouble to Brentford and they were done by a terrible penalty decision.

According to Stewart Donald on one of the podcasts, Ross said he wants to keep Cattermole so he won’t be going anywhere (SD’s words nit mine)

He's been one of if not our best midfielder this season and he's got experience so I can see why we'd want to keep him, I'm just looking into the near future and I'm seeing the likes of Power, O'Nien, Robson and Mumba surpassing him rapidly and we're desperate to free up money for wages so I'd deffo sell. We'd need an offer first though and the last one I recall was stoke about ten years ago.
