cant make the first team with two clubs, of course we will go for him to give the fans a lift but we will only pay peanuts so we have to let another player go by the wayside and wait until a reject comes along for a chance that is willing to take the money.......great running for a temporary premiership club...ata boy

I think he would jump at the chance, if, and that's a big if, his "lowest wage demand" as it were, fits into our wage budget. He'd be pretty much guaranteed to start as one of our three CM's, and he'd slot straight in I'd imagine. He'd be in the shop window of the biggest league in the world, playing for a side who play the right way, and he'd probably excel for us, and at worst earn a move to a bigger side and we'd get a payday out of it. Why not? He'd be a player, for me, worth paying close to 20kpw, on a short term deal.

The problem is, and it'w what we are finding more and more since promotion, is they may seem cheap but these players have established agents who will not want to let their golden gooose go cheap on a short term deal. Hence my reasoning behind damaged goods hargreaves... however it seems Leicester in the Championship have more clout than we do.
Sometimes you have to take a risk.

That reminds me...didn't we get stung before from a similar situation with a Mr Kennedy in the 80's!

Wow. This 40 million payday is seeming smaller all the time. Good luck the swans board!

There is no doubt the guy has ability, however he has too much of an ego for my liking. We have built a very good team structure and emphasis and I wouldn't like to disturb that.

Me neither, but I think Ireland would thrive as part of a combative 3 man midfield unit. Plus, he can hit a hell of a long ranger!

Have to agree with Scottswan-Ireland would be a quality addition but only IF he accepted and fitted into the wage structure
Could only see a loan deal-small loan fee? as he was a £6m transfer a short while ago-wages and a transfer fee would blow us out the water

failing to make an impact at Man City is hardly a surprise, would love to see him at the Swans if his wages were halved

If wages are right then a great signing possibility.

So you are happy to have an injury prone player at the club ? The lessons of signing such a player in Beattie has not been learned by some fans, thank god you are not running the club and Jenkins/Rodgers is, because that budget we have will be blown out of the water!

Can't see this happening at all, it's just conjecture !

This would be too much of a risk...... A poor signing if it went ahead

Musty I'd rather have a player who stands a good chance of being fit to play, not someone who will happily take a million or two off us and sit on the subs bench when fit

But Jager on that policy Bodde should be let go as well. Every player ends up having one season in their career where they're getting plenty of injuries doesn't mean they're then continually crook. I think he's a great player but also think he's got a bit of an attitude problem which would need beating out of him before he's allowed in our dressing room. And his taste in cars - the less said the better.....http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.php/2008/02/26/see-stephen-irelands-pimped-ride

if buck says he is good enough and he thinks he will fit in then i wont argue with him, in his favour you dont get a £6 million price tag for nothing so he must have certain qualities about him. its true to say that we should not condemn him because he has not made it at his last two teams. (m as guilty of that than most) so if buck can do a deal whether its a permanent or a season loan hen thats good enough for me...

The difference is that bodde was our player to begin with, he got injured playing for us and the club , it showed commitment from us and loyalty from him.

This Ireland guy is not for us, looking at wiki it is said that two managers of his said to sort his head out, he has been dropped and apparently demanding £2m for a loan move underlines a few things, one we can't afford him, two he dropped a few times and three he is injured.

Honestly if we going to spend millions and drop all fiscal reasoning around finance I hope to do a damn sight better than this one !

Sinclair failed to make an impact @ 7 clubs before us and i think you will agree that he made enough of a impact for us!

Ireland would be a fantastic signing. For 4 1/2 years he made more than enough of an impact at Man C until he finally found himself down the pecking order halfway though his 5th season when in competition with world class players such as Nigel De Jong, Patrick Vieira and Gareth Barry . Granted he had a tough season last season but players sometimes have dips. If (and its a big one) he contemplates signing for us im sure Rodgers could bring his confidence back and do a great job for us!

Totally Dan. I think Ireland is a complete class act, and when Hughes was in charge at Man City, he was one of the first choice midfielders, even during the period when they were buying superstars. I think he's suffered in that they prefer flashy foreigners over hard working British/Irish players, and if he got a run in a team playing good football he'd remind everybody what he's all about.

Exactly scott, it took world class players long enough to replace him at Man C can imagine his confidence was shot when he went to villa and with them not knowing who their manager was going to be from week to week no wonder his confidence didn't pick up and he ended up @ Newcastle with Pardew!!! one of the least inspirational managers in the league!!

Get Ireland down here and one chat from Rodgers will get him firing on all cylinders and showing why prices in and around £6 million were quoted for him when he was at Man C. But saying that and me getting all hyped up about how good a signing he would be, i just don't see it happening.
