Does seem odd how this would become common knowledge despite him not having a son. Oh well at least there isn't a little boy with cancer and that is the main thing.

I like to banter a bit and have some fun at their expense and they likewise back but this is one of the sickest episodes I have come across for some time. Not because it is Steed, or indeed any footballer but rather the thought of someone thinking it was funny to talk about cancer in children. Its nice to see the disgust felt from all sections of the NE football fanbase.

Anyone who has had family effected by this awful disease will know of the horrors and trauma it brings with it and especially for me this week as a friend of mine just buried his 26 year old daughter on Friday, who sadly passed away from the very same thing.

I wish it were humanly possible just to spend a few minutes in the company of the people behind this story, to 'discuss and educate' them in the errors of their ways.

This was on the RTG forum yesterday, never mentioned it cos no-one was totally sure.

But seems our Geordie got the actual facts first before posting, good lad, well done.
 
Brilliant to find out that Steed does not have a son battling cancer. But absolutely disgusted at the people who decided that they would make up a story like that. Really nasty stuff.

You have quoted my sentiments exactly Mr RAW. Having said that should we be at all surprised at the amount of purile garbage that appears in the local and national press, when journos sit on their fat arses dreaming up stories that dont have one iota of truth in them. Its about time that these plebs were taken to task through the courts. Any monies received could then be donated to a worthy cause.<applause> By the way I'm nominating myself as a very worthy cause.<cheers>

Journo's are so lazy nowadays. That's why twitter is so huge, they love it. Imagine your job, all you gotta do is check a social network site every few hours for some comment and bang, write a story on your laptop. You don't have to go anywhere, do any research, talk to anyone. All you have to do is follow Joey Barton on twitter, quote what's being said, reaction from other twitter people blablabla send it to the office, done. And ever so often someone gets a fake account puts something out there and the journos print it. Oh shoot.

The quality of reporting of 'news' have significantly droped in recent years. imo it's down to journos using the internet as sources and simply not verifying anything anymore, why should they anyway, a story is hot for 3 hours, then something else comes along.

Your theory is probably correct about the source of the story.

I noticed as a tutor that more and more students used references from the internet in their essays. I tried to explain why they should only use verifiable and respected journals and publications, (which does not include Wikipedia) but often struggled to make them understand why. I have no idea what is taught in journalim schools but I would hang my head in shame if I wrote some of the stuff that's in the newspapers these days.
