And with investment and a sniff of success, what would the crowds be?
When we start filling out the SOL regularly again then I would agree extend but why extend a stadium that doesn’t get filled?

I think you’ve taken my comments as a dig at our fanbase, we get superb numbers absolutely out of this world but to extend the SOL when we average 38k is bonkers.

A massive grant and a chance to host major events whilst at the same time increasing the value of the stadium and the club seem decent reasons.

It will be looked at I am certain and only those with all the relevant data can make the decision one way or the other. but sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate and under the right circumstances I am certain this club could easily fill a 60,000 stadium.

club looking into extending this to 60000+
some of the structure will be getting looked at over the summer, this if for euros also for the music world

the want a stadium to be 60000+ in the northeast and the don't believe ST james has the right acoustic for the music industry club looking to become the hot bed of the north east for music
maybe go to 55K but any bigger would look rubbish with loads of empty seats. Unless you sell loads off as a tenner each.

If the ambition on the pitch is going to match this extension then it’s a yes from me.
Get this club and the top end of the Prem and being competitive for cups, euros etc and it’s a no brainier.
As Kevin Costner once said…”build it and they will come “. Watch this space.
Great point, if we invest in the team majorly then it could be a no brainer.

we could have standing back behind the goals and round the bowl also extend the south stand, but properly organised. There's a hotel right next door and flatten sheepfolds and build a multi storey car park there, shops etc a meet up place and yep wow i can imagine Sunderland vs Newcastle in front of 60,000 !

The proposed FPP deal had this at the forefront of their planning along with improvements to the Metro station, approach to the stadium, Sheepfolds, etc. Money coming into the town, hotels, restaurants, pubs, etc, can only benefit match goers and other visitors. That would mean more visiting fans would stay over and bring more money in.

Trains from the south need to be routed directly into Sunderland, more often, and not Newcastle. This was another part of the FPP feasibility study.
(Edit FPP wanted to encourage the council, Metro, local businessmen, etc, to spend money, not necessarily use their own. But they'd have taken the credit,)

TBH the approach from town, St Peter's, past the Deaf Club and the back alley and the rat run across the road from Tesco/Wheatsheaf is poor for a club of our size.

As long as the lower bowl is full, for matches that would be fine for me ...

... and I believe/hope KLD, and the family, are looking to leave a legacy of a great stadium that can be filled with us watching a good PL team.
I agree with you about the trains coming from south but I can’t see it. Especially with this Great British Rail thing happening. Spoke to people years ago from Network Rail about overcrowding on ECML north of Northallerton. I said put some round coast. Trans Pennine XC etc. just nodded heads etc and never nowt done.

Sadly I'm forced to agree with you mate.

My hope was that a group of billionaires would be able to exert pressure on the right people in various areas. They had far reaching plans that I hope have been passed onto KLD.

Some of the projects involved the University and the AOL which would've brought thousands of potential supporters/ambassadors into the club but using government money to extend the facilities.

Donald is 100% to blame for that deal falling through but, in reality, we may be better off with KLD ...

... if only we can persuade him to build that monorail <laugh>
