It seems the fashion these days, full backs seem to be better going forward than defensively.
I remember once when people were raving about gareth southgate at centre back - about how good he was at carrying the ball out of defence
he messed up with clearing a cross and I was going crazy because I said he should make sure he can do the simple things for his position
I think Maguire will do well because he's a no nonsense type of defender but he can do a lot more without forgetting the priorities

We actually have some good young talent now and some wise older heads - Mcgregor, Daws, Meyler, Larsson to guide them

The only issue I forsee is the massive reshuffle of the squad - how quickly can Sluts find his best XI and how quickly will they gel?

Also no more bloody injuries!!

When we get Abel, Dave and Mason (big if) back, it's a very healthy squad

Tomori could be a key link, we needed CB cover - hopefully Mazuch isn't a sicknote

I agree, both Kingsley and Aina are also suited to wing backs rather than full backs, the problem is if either of those are out, Lenihan is not a wing back, and Clark is able to play there but not ideally suited.

Slutsky is very attacking minded which is good. I hope we have enough in defence against the better teams.

It's also light up top. I don't have a huge problem with any of the three fit strikers, but between them I'm concerned they don't have the same quality as other sides in this division.

And if they all lose their main striker to injury, how do we compare then?

How many of our central midfielders can also play out wide? Once Stewart is back we will have 7 players competing for 2/3 positions. Are any of them likely to be used elsewhere otherwise we will be using youngsters as cover for other positions with 5 decent/experienced midfielders not starting.

Not centre mids but Diomande and apparently Keane, Dicko and Campbell can play wide.

As long as Dicko and Campbell are fit, Diomande will likely end up getting more playing time out wide than up the middle.

I think there's a player in there with Dio, he shows it in very small glimpses but I think he could get us a few goals this year. Decent hold up player who doesn't get knocked off the ball easily which is what you need in this league

The ball Diomande played into the feet of Bowen for our 4th goal v Bolton was pure poetry. The type of pass to feet in attacking areas I have been wanting to see for ages. Normally we'll continue pushing it around the edge of the area allowing defenders to regroup.

Think often the problem is also that nobody makes the runs Bowen did, looks like he has a real attacker's instinct

Maybe, but I'm sure if that was the case I'd have left the stadium many more times without as much of a sore throat. Shouting at players to make a forward incisive pass, rather than the usual 5 minute pattern of passing it around the box like fannies. Not so much about personnel, more about the pre match instructions.
