I don’t think fans saw it as unacceptable, there was just an understandable urge from fans to occasionally try to sign a top tier player to accompany a lot of the ones we bought with the “buy low, sell high” philosophy in order to really try and get over that trophy line.However Spurs did much better than that for about 15 consecutive seasons and that outcome was unacceptable to the fans.
Nowadays we buy high and sell low… sometimes we don’t even sell, we just release and we’re on the verge of relegation for it.
I’m not sure how a club who used to be so meticulous and relatively successful with recruitment done a complete 180 and decided spending the likes of £60m on Richarlison, £65m on Solanke, £50m on Simons and £35m-£40m on Gallagher was a good idea.
