Because with 10 games to go you were 7 points a head of arsenal and 2 points a head of Chelsea. Pole position to get 3rd.
Sorry but that points thing Spurs fans keep using is a cop out. United only had 75 points the year they won the treble and the next year they won the league with 91 points. Did they have a more successful season? United came 2nd with 89 points yet don't view it as a success. The genuinely big clubs don't do that. It's all about where you finish not how many points you win. Some years it won't take as many points as other years due to the league being more competitive.
Why would we be worried about facing a team that's only beaten us 3 times in 42 attempts? (PL era only) I don't think eitherP Spurs or Chelsea fans will go into this game with any kind of trepidation. Both have good squads and both are in reasonably good form. I relish the bigger games, it's the kind we had on Saturday that I hate playing. Banana skin all over them.
That's not what he's saying though. Would you say they gifted you the title in the same way we're told we bottled it? But if you were looking at points per game ratios with our final 10 games compared to our previous 28, it stays level. I fail to see how it's "bottling it" to perform at the same level we had in order to get into that position in the first place. Anyway, I don't really care what you want to call it. Nothing will match the ridicule of your Champions League defence
I don't get what you are trying to say. I'd rather finish 1st with 75 points than 2nd with 89 but maybe it's just me. Every cloud and all. On the plus side we got to beat Basel and win the Europa League this completing the full set of European trophies and being the only English club to do so. I'll take that given who we had in chargea last season
And look how that turned out. A pathetic match and a piss poor atmosphere... Saturday will be much different
Understandable why you forgot about Paulinho playing in the NLD, seeing as he was well and truly dominated by Aaron Ramsey.
Eh? The atmosphere was pretty good actually. Our fans were in good voice for once, and to be fair, we normally always are for that game.
Well, obviously but that's not what 6061 was responding to and not what I was responding to either. We were responding to the idea that we "bottled it"
Ha, nothing will take away the fact we had one to defend. Plus we went on to win the Europa League first time in it, something Spurs have been trying to accomplish for many years
I wouldn't say bottled it because you had some very tough fixtures to negotiate whereas Arsenal had played theirs, but after you beat them you were heavy favourites to finish 3rd and it was expected Chelsea/Arsenal would scrap it out for 4th place. Other than Fulham, it's not like you dropped many points where you were expected to have no problems.
Weren't Spurs 10 points ahead of Arsenal in February2012 too? And 6 points ahead of us in feb 2011 and we finished 12 points ahead of them?? Would this pattern not make a team 'chokers'?
2012 was a bottlejob no doubt about it but I'd say last year was just tough fixtures catching up with them. Spurs are a side that traditionally don't do well against big sides.
Oh behave, we weren't heavy favourites for 3rd But yeah, that was the point we were making. It wasn't like we threw it away, Arsenal simply did very well and went on an extraordinary run.
I heard the Spurs fans once and the Arsenal fans a few times more. I'd expect more from both sets of fans for a North London derby.
Anyway! I think we will line up like this: Cech Ivan Cahill JT Cole Mikel Lampard/Ramires Schurrle Oscar Willan Eto'o the two CM's are who I'm torn with, I'm sure Jose knows how awful Mikel and Lamps are together but very unpredictable. Thought Essien was exceptional on Tues by the way so maybe even him. Pretty sure Luiz or Mata won't play either.
