    Gym - weight lifting.

I get enough cardio workout walking the dog. I'm still looking to gain another stone and then I'll consider maybe doing the odd spinning class. I've always been a naturally fit lad so I don't feel like I actually need to do a lot.

Did a rare afternoon session yesterday, didn't fancy going into the office so planned a lazy day. It got to 2pm and I decided lazy days aren't for me.

Did a 20 minute kettle bell and bodyweight circuit, then the bags for 15. No more Brewdog Punk left in my system after that one, hurt but felt much better for it.

    Right who's supplementing?

I've got my 3 go-to supps and when I'm focused on training these three things come into their own.

Instant BCAA - lemon & lime flavour, half before and half after training.

Creating Hydrochloride - one scoop per day at any given time.

Whey Isolate chocolate cookies - nom nom.

Colleague of mine does the protein shakes and a few I know do that Herbalife routine.

Personally don't go in for all that.

The key is in the word mate 'supplements'.

If you're on a good diet then you'll see the benefits, otherwise they're a waste of time.

Creatine is probably the best researched of all supps, it's shown to improve strength marginally and help with recovery. It's naturally available in food but you'd have to eat a **** load of it to get what you'd get from one scoop, I think it was like 3lbs of Tuna or something ridiculous. I use hydrochloride rather than monohydrate due to less bloating, or no bloating at all in fact, despite the fact it tastes like ****!

BCAA - branch chain amino acids, without these things I have a lot more muscle soreness post-workout. There's a lot more reasons that they're good for you but that's why I use them personally.

Protein powder is just a supplement mate, I use it in my daily diet as my 'something sweet' as I have a sweet tooth and I obviously can't eat chocolate and sweets etc. They say aim for 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight, which puts me dead on 200g of protein, which I can usually achieve quite easily with foods, but with the supps I'll take it to around 260g. Personally that's where my optimum seems to be for best gains, no logic to it other than that.

They do work for me bro, I was in better shape previously then weddings and babies got involved but still retain a lot of what I worked so hard for over the years. I'm in a position now where I have a bit more time and I'll use some of that keeping fit and trying to look after what momma gave me.

I stopped about 8 years ago but have some small weights at home for toning and swim at least three times a week for an hour.

    I use PhD diet whey.

Have an occasional drink but often add it to porridge and smoothies and such like. Nothing beyond that really. It's just as a protein top up for when I am on weights, which at the moment is not that frequent.
