Also said Oliver didn't send Kovacic off with 2nd yellow because it would have negatively impacted the game. Isn't that an admission of being just a teensy, weensy, little bit corrupt?

Yeah, I was frothing at that too, and I know where it comes from - him not sending-off De Jong off in the 2010 WC final for a karate kick in the chest of Alonso. And that, in a nutshell, is the problem of having him as head of the PGMOL - there is absolutely no levels of bias, corruption, and incompetence that any referee under his stewardship could descend to that Webb hasn't already limboed under. And that very phrase "negatively impacting the game" was exactly what he used after the game, then changed tack to "I didn't have a good angle" dogshit. The man being in charge of the PGMOL is like putting Liz Truss in charge of The Bank Of England.

Was bit disappointed that didn’t talk about the Jones one. People comparing it to gusto but was very different as Jones isn’t making a tackle, doesn’t leave both feet off the ground which they claim on the gusto was a factor and wasn’t any speed.

Also shame to see that for gusto they also freeze framed it at the point of contact for ref already putting into mind that it’s a bad tackle no where near the ball

Some you win, some you lose on those. I do think we should be told why he ran over to a still of Jones making contact with the shin and no focus on how he got there with his foot bouncing off the top of the ball. It's a bit like showing a still of somebody accidentally standing on another player as they both fall over - some stills will always make that look like a stamp. I just thought it was horrific editing, and so did Gary Neville until he decided to get with the programme a day or so later and back Webb and the PGMOL to the hilt for his own self-serving interests. But as said, some you win, some you lose - I thought Jota deserved his second yellow, even if he didn't deserve the first. But he knew he was on a yellow and shouldn't have made that second tackle - an independent panel disagrees and says he shouldn't have been sent off. Meh, that one's a completely different situation than an official paid as much as a brain surgeon (more, even with their Saudi jaunts lining their wallets) not being able to watch a screen and determine which way the decision he was reviewing had gone.

But the question I want to ask about restarting is this - if they'd similarly ballsed-up the Jones review by believing that the on-field decision had been red, then said 'Check complete' and Jones stayed on the pitch, does ANYBODY believe the VAR team would have said "Oh well, he's ****ed that up, but we can't do anything about it now because the game has restarted"? My arse - he would have been off the moment the ball next went out of play. Hooper would have been called to the monitor and told to review the tackle as there'd been a miscommunication.

You simply can't have an organisation policing itself and expect it to function properly.

What would your best guess be as to what was being conveyed to him? Don't say you have no idea, just have a guess.

Linesman maybe saying something about whose throw it is? Maybe saying Robbo taking long time to take the throw?

Could be any number of things given the linesman talk to the referees all game.

Refs often blow their whistle to hurry the throw in up. Potentially went to do that then Robbo went to throw it so decided wasn’t necessary.

True but seems to be impeccable timing for a coincidence.

Another thing about last night that struck me was him saying that the PGMOL released the audio tapes (or some of them) because they wanted to always have transparency in the game. Errrrrrrrrrrrr , pretty sure I remember Liverpool having to publicly ask for them to be released, and reports that said the PGMOL management were split on the issue. Three or four times in that show last night he reminded me of Chemical Ali in the Gulf War.

Didn't it take over 48hrs for them to be released too?

If they want transparency then provide a live audio feed from the officials and VAR, or at least the option to listen to it via the red button (if that's still a thing) [HASHTAG]#brokenrecord[/HASHTAG]

At least you had a guess which is what I asked. What you've said is highly unlikely based on actual game footage :bandit: but I will leave it there.

not saying anything we do not know.

its painfully obvious at times thst they have a quota of bookings etc

it's also painfully obvious that Webb is lying but of course Michael Owen is the same old filthly manc traitor thst takes the sky money to ask him dolly questions and allow him lie to his face.
