Also said Oliver didn't send Kovacic off with 2nd yellow because it would have negatively impacted the game. Isn't that an admission of being just a teensy, weensy, little bit corrupt?
Was bit disappointed that didn’t talk about the Jones one. People comparing it to gusto but was very different as Jones isn’t making a tackle, doesn’t leave both feet off the ground which they claim on the gusto was a factor and wasn’t any speed. Also shame to see that for gusto they also freeze framed it at the point of contact for ref already putting into mind that it’s a bad tackle no where near the ball
Howard Webb is a self-serving wannabe. Referees and especially their bosses should be seen and not heard. Just police the laws of the game with more help than you ever have had and do it well, improving continuously. Do not try to make a game better, that’s not your job you twat. Now we have one who wants the limelight. Makes me want to throw up.
In general I'd agree. No persona can justify why a) gusto gets red b) jones gets red, (off a completely illegal still image) c) Kovacic get 1 yellow for 2 clear red card fouls. you cannot justify not explain that. its pure incompetence and inconsistency. You have one game where a VAR pulls a ref back and goes out of their way to basically instruct them to change to red. You have another where a players has dived in from BEHIND twice with studs with greater forces and the var has not intervened at all. its not only down to how cowardly the onfield ref is (oliver is well known for it) but who the var ref is as to what form of officiating you might experience and that in a billion pound industry is simply not good enough. Stop waffling, stop letting refs go on slush fund junkets to middle east and get in a room and train train train.
I’m not suggesting that it is rife at all but this lack of transparancy and accountability lends itself to one or more individuals being bribed eventually. If it hasn’t already happened already, it won’t be long imo.
Just watching the Howard Webb and Michael Owen VAR review. Webb gets the excuses in very early... "Would have been offside pre-VAR" "England is trying to do it quickly, been a lot of comments about VAR taking too long" ... It's bullshit buddy. Speed shouldn't overall performance (that's what she said) and VAR was brought it to eradicate the incompetent decisions. So, the end solution is more dialogue between on pitch official and VAR team. On pitch need to state to VAR what they're looking for a review on, VAR need acknowledge that by repeating the request to clarify they're on the same page. Also, VAR no longer just say "check complete" they need to clarify the decision they've reached. Seems sensible but will, unfortunately, make the process longer too.
Still don't understand why ENGLAND says "off"... "check complete, check complete. That's fine, perfect. Off"
Just after the disallowed goal, free kick is taken and 32 seconds later it's a throw in to Liverpool taken by Robertson. While he's holding the ball you can see Hooper put his finger to his ear, put his whistle in his mouth and then remove it again without blowing and the throw in is taken. That's what people are referring to. It was all over social media immediately after the game with anticipations that it would be covered in the released audio. It wasn't, of course.
oh 100% it's happened. remember that lad who was an ex ref talking about fun and games in a apod cast? I posted it a while ago. he was hilarious but he admitted on international duty these refs were being routinely approached and given inducements. 1000% clubs with "middle eastern" ownership have to have made referees "very welcome" hmwhen travelling. the second we heard gallant and elgnad were in Qatar 48 hours prior it raised.massive questions that Webb is totally silent on
I still don't believe the story, tbh. The phrase "check complete" obviously is shorthand for "check complete, on-field decision stands". The on-field decision was offside, so the phrase you quote is a clear indication that he's confirming that the decision of offside was correct. This suggest that he wasn't even looking at the image, and it's not until the replay technician (the only one to come out of it with any credit) questions it that he realises he's ****ed up. I'm still hesitant to call corruption, but there are further layers of incompetence than we've been led to believe, imo.
Yeah seem that. No where does it show that he was told. People are putting 2 and 2 together and getting 58 though.
I agree there is more to it but unfortunately we'll never find out. I find it strange that there is next to no interaction from the on field referee when they realise there's been a **** up too. Clearly puts his finger to his ear and whistle to mouth but never questions why the call for a delay . In fact, the audio suggests the referee wasn't told about a potential delay but that's clear bullshit considering his actions
Not until one of them retires and writes his memoir and admits how they all lied to cover for one another. And nothing gets done about it.
Are we going to have a sweepstake on which one of them it'll be? Howard Webb is as likely suspect for selling out but maybe he'd have TOO much to lose...
What would your best guess be as to what was being conveyed to him? Don't say you have no idea, just have a guess.
