I have this idea in my head of seasons ago Southampton v Argyle being the first game of the season and televised with a 1230pm kick off. I think it might have been the first game Argyle played the last time we got promoted to the Championship. Argyle won it 1 - 0 with a scrappy goal at the end and the Southampton fans were livid at "little Argyle" winning. Anyone else recognise that description being used? We were top of the league for at least 2 hours.

It would have been this.........12 years 9 months ago.

Saturday 7th Aug...2010.....F L One.

Southampton...0-1...Plymouth A....(Summerfield).

Team that day.
Button, N'Gala, Timar, Arnason, Molyneux, Summerfield (Clark), Fletcher, Peterlin, Bhasara, Maclean, Fallon (Patterson).

Didn't state kick-off time.......or goal time.

But they finished second that year....and we finished 23rd because of a 10pt deduction.

This was part of the horror story that saw us relegated twice and of course administration.

I was just reading a piece in the times about Southampton: after years of relative security in the EPL, their owners adopted a policy of buying young, inexperienced players who they believed could not only play at that level but who they could sell on in a couple of years at a big profit. Surprising all teams don't do that isn't it? Perhaps they should have realised there's a reason for it. They let a number of experienced, reliable EPL players move on. Because they sought out what they regarded as bargains wherever they could find them, they've ended up with a sizeable cabal of young, French speaking Africans who don't mix with the rest of the squad or engage with the coaching team. Doesn't seem a place to risk a promising career.

This is surprisingly frank:

Now you mention it, I remember it. You are absolutely right - I watched it on Sky, living in Bromham then, dish at the back of the house which occasionally gave up the ghost for a few moments in wet & windy weather.. We had a Toshiba 42 inch TV, one of the first with 1080 resolution. I remember it well, as it migrated up to the bedroom when we came here and didn't go to the skip until about a month ago when it finally stopped working!

Bolton...1-1...Barnsley...F/T.

Charles...67mins..................Cadden...63mins.

Barnsley had the best of this game.......they'll expect to finish the job at their place.

Chesterfield...2-2...Notts C....AET.

Notts C win 4-3 on penalties.....and are promoted to Div Two.

Have you all gone to Vegas with the team....very quiet on here.

Players are of course employed up to the end of June.....that doesn't mean Schumacher hasn't done some business in the meanwhile.

notdistant is still fixated with his electronic gadgets from yester year. The trouble with the season just ending is everyone takes a breath as there is not a lot going on in Argyle land. Once play offs have finished then the signing frenzy can start. I don't even know how much my season ticket will cost yet.

I was going to wait until the play-offs where completed.....plus the Premiership.

We might be on the scrounge for some premier cast-offs when we know who is available to be loaned out......and of course Championship players who will be surplus to requirements.

The summer will be long enough anyrate for all the wheeling and dealing that needs doing to help us be competitive in this league.

I think Schumacher will be talking to all the parent clubs to check out our loans from last season.

Luton... v... Coventry for a place in the Premiership...I find surprising.....both have found goals hard to get.....57 & 58 goals respectively...they will have to seriously buy big to get a striker in.

Luton managed only 10,013 fans in their ground for their play-off 2-0 defeat of Sunderland.

Extra time at Hillsborough. Unbelievable 4 - 0 to Sheffield Wed with last goal in the 98th minute. This has to be the greatest comeback since Lazarus.

im watching this game all noght its been amazing they have battered posh, like city did to madrid last night , surely only one winner

And Sheff Wed win on penalties which has to be the result of the Century so far. I wrote them off after game one and I bet so did everyone else including their Manager.
