No ex gooner would get an invite... We invited the current lot all over on Sunday and none of the ignorant mo fos turned up <whistle >
This was on Talksport last night. Was interesting. His former agent trying to justify it and avoiding other questions was nauseating. Ultimately, Spurs are absolutely right not to invite him. They would be mugs to. Regardless of whether the club failed to sort out his contract he still went to their biggest rivals which was a total lack of respect to everyone associated with the club and showed his true character. Sol is an Arsenal legend and to an extent a Portsmouth and England one too - but not Spurs. If he is offended by no invite that would confirm he still doesn't understand why the move would be a bad thing to Spurs and so justifies not inviting him! Players should take into account mugging off a club and its fans won't be accepted. Especially the captain!
Spot on Nothing to do with Levy, that bellend would be given hell if he stepped foot in our stadium. Levy is no idiot, wants the send off to be a joyous occasion, not drowned in an avalanche of boos.
Imho, it's because of his behaviour that he didn't get the permanent England captaincy that he so craved. At the end of the day, how can you make someone who embodies underhanded betrayal a national figurehead?
I think you should all make up and be friends ... it's all in the past now ... Sol went on to win titles with Arsenal and Spurs went on to be ... well Spurs What's all the fuss about?
All jokes aside, if he came out and said something along the lines of "i can understand why Spurs fans hate me; i behaved like a selfish, disrespectful **** to the club that i captained and nurtured me, etc. then it may soften some hearts
I'm no fan of hers but she could argue that she's trying to carry out the will of the people. Now had she become the leader of the Labour Party.....
He was never going to get invited... What he did what underhand, but made even worse because it was to their rivals! Saying that, if it was the other way round, Arsenal would be butt-hurt and Spurs would be calling him a legend!
He went to Arsenal. Having lied and said he had no intention of leaving. But really, he went to Arsenal. Pochettino left Saints for Spurs in exactly the same manner by the way - having spent months assuring Saints he intended to sign a new contract in the summer, all the while he was secretly negotiating with spurs.
But he wasn't at Saints since the age of 8 and never the club captain so whilst i agree wholeheartedly with you, there is a question of the scale of the betrayal
Yeah, I do get that. But betrayal and self interest are the norm in the modern game. Had Campbell gone to any club other than Arsenal, there would not be this torrent of bile directed at him. His betrayal would have been forgotten by now. All the stuff about him misleading the club etc. is pure hypocrisy from spurs fans imo, a mask for some pretty unpalatable hatred.
Agreed, it was the fact that he (our club captain) went to Arsenal more than anything else. Had he behaved in the same way but gone ManU there would have been nowhere near the fallout. After all, Sheringham was welcomed back with open arms.
I suspect there is some truth in that. He's an oddball - like Stan Cauliflower. Not good captain material.
