The point about the sea of cash floating our way if we stay up allowing us to compete more evenly is an interesting one - it will allow us to spend at a higher level but where do we think those "difference makers" are going to come from and why would they choose to come to Norwich instead of Stoke, Fulham, West Brom, West Ham, Sunderland, etc. We all know Norfolk is a wonderful county with much to offer but it won't suit everyone (look at James Vaughan for example) and so foreign players in particular may choose a club centred near a big city, with all the trappings that this offers, ahead of coming to Norwich. Yes, our facilities are good and the set-up of the club is good but our currrent playing style is hardly likely to endear an agent of say Van Wolfswinkle or Hooper to say "you gotta go to Norwich, they play wonderful football and the club is great" - our style of football currently won't "sell" the club to a possible star like Wolfy when other clubs in similar situations, playing similar styles of football (ie, Stoke), offering similar wages and in more "attractive" (if you like the lure of the big city which many players do) locations will be also vying for your signature. The flood of notes that will hit the accounts come May if we are still in the PL should attract a better class of player but I think we'll need to unearth some hidden gems such as Kei as some of the more attractive options may not always see Norwich as their first choice of go-to club.
No. It means he thinks they are best equipped to do what he is asking of them, and the reserve players are less well-equipped by some margin. What he is asking them to do is a further question.
Not suggesting that is wrong Robbie but I can see two things that come out of that statement. 1. It was largely agreed, not so long ago, that we had two players for every position that were capable, contrary to what you have suggested. 2. We are likely to see quite a number of players being sold in the summer, at least 5 (from the bench as they apparently cannot do the job required).
So you're saying he picks the same team week in, week out, gives them instructions on how to play, telling the midfield to get forward more than they are and link with the forwards and despite the fact they don't appear to be willing or capable of doing this he doesn't feel the need to change the starting line-up, formation, tactics or make changes earlier in the game because we haven't got any better players in our squad despite having been through two transfer windows and having assured us he has two players for every position. Doesn't sound quite right to me. And it's interesting to know that YOU actually can read his mind to know exactly what he is thinking, despite what you said to Carrabuh yesterday. Very interesting...
With Pilko now out maybe its time we had a look at the Murphy twins (at least off the bench) and Korey Smith in Centre mid
saw they scored (the murphys) vs palace u21 last night. they will be banging on the first team squad door next season imo. exciting prospects.
Although I don't think it's the right time just yet for the Murphy's I think they should be fully put into Pre-season with the first team. Give em a good thrashing with the seniors and then we can see where we are at the beginning of next year. It's very hard to judge when to chuck players in. Too fast and you'll ruin them. Too slow and you'll ruin them. Just excellent we have two lads that look like such good prospects.
Why not, nothing to lose and will probably up the spirit around the camp, I love seeing a youngster playing for the first team. It could get slightly confusing with them both on the pitch at the same time, will have to get used to that.
I think the Murphys have earned the chance to get a few mins towards the end of the season, especially by the time we are safe. However, i do agree Beefy all in good time, I dont want to ruin them, a few mins couldnt hurt though could it I love watching one of our youngsters breakthrough into the first team, i think most fans do. They could bring a much needed lift to the team, plus they are pacey which we lack a bit of in midfield and they can deliver a good cross.
Nothing on the Korey Smith suggestion is he surplus to requirements now?? I havnt seen him play in a while and know hes been out on loan, he turned out for the u21 side against Palace. He looked like a good prospect a few years ago, is he anywhere near the required standard now?
I'm very dubious about the people we have running/ involved with the youth set up (unless there have been changes of late). I think there is alot of dead wood which needs to be rid of to allow some fresh ideas in. It is going to take a long time before we start seeing good players coming through.
I agree with this, in some cases I'm slightly worried our youth set-up has become a bit of an old-boys club, who may not be there on merit, there's certainly a few ex-players there who have done the required course and seemingly walked into their positions. Whilst I don't know if that's actually the case, I'd like to think that we've got the best people for the job, and if that means poaching from other teams, or telling ex-players to prove they can do it elsewhere before joining Norwich, then that should be happening.
No, I'm not reading his mind. I'm pointing out a non-sequitur in your reasoning. You drew a particular conclusion from his selecting the same players etc. I simply pointed out that your conclusion didn't follow and that to reach it requires a further step which the facts you cite don't in themselves justify.
