My missus used to smack them. I eventually talked her out of it. As you say, nowadays sometimes I think they’d rather get smacked than listen to her ranting! :biggrin:

I’ve never been angry enough with them to think that physically hurting them is the right answer. That said, so far they’ve been easy kids to parent. I’ve seen some of their mates’ behaviour and know I’d struggle to cope with it without flipping out.

My sister-in-law smacks her kids regularly. Her eldest doesn't even flinch now as it's become the norm so it has no effect on him. One time she smacked him so he turned around and whacked my daughter who is younger than him. He's a little **** but it wasn't really his fault, his mum has taught him that it's OK to whack someone if you're angry/frustrated.

There's a balance and there's bound to be a difference of opinion with this one, parenthood is not easy and fumbling your way through it means you sometimes make the wrong choices. No need to beat yourself up about it. :biggrin:

I was smacked/hit regularly growing up and it had little no impact on changing my behaviour I don't think. I would still do whatever and then just be like "oh ****" when I got caught and punished. Also got to the point where it wouldn't hurt, don't remember my dad hitting me that often but he could hit pretty hard. My grandad used to a fair bit when I would laugh at my mum when she was hitting me.

I think I just grew out of being a disobedient, don't listen to anyone **** as I got older. Or I am actually still the same really but now I'm an adult there is no punishment for that.
 
I was smacked as a child and I don’t think it made me change my behaviour either. It certainly wasn’t a deterrent, I was more annoyed that I’d been caught than anything else and I think it just taught me to be more devious to evade punishment.

There’s absolutely no way I’d hit my daughter. I discipline her by taking away privileges or threatening to take them away, it works because she knows she will miss out on something she enjoys if she doesn’t behave. Hitting her would just break the bond of trust and it would probably break my heart too.

My personal view is that when an adult hits a child, they do it because they have lost control and run out of options. Adults need to be smarter and show their children how to deal with conflict instead of resorting to hitting them.

All very PC but life isn't always as simple and every child is different,there's always some **** trying to tell you how to live your life (don't mean you :biggrin:) people need to accept that their way of doing things isn't always correct, get off the soap box and take a step back. You do it one way another person does it differently and that's just life.

I don't have kids and have no plans to do so but I think I probably would slap them about if they were being ****s. Rule with fear seems a strong strategy.

My other plan was to raise them like they do in 300, full on fight training from a young age and then off to kill a wolf at age 10, if they fail then just create another one.
