What I find so utterly frustrating is that if we had bought, say, Danny Ings and Ryan Shawcross (just for example, but basically a CF and CB), there could be an argument for not having anything to complain about. As a club, we got rid of the manager with the abysmal cup record and made £3m, are sat in 11th within reach of 8th, are about to post profits in excess of £40m and have a Geordie in charge. We also have a hugely wealthy owner who has given us a tidy club to use to blood some of our younger players, so that their chance of success improves. Our squad feature the likes of De Jong, Colo, Cisse, Sissoko, Tiote, Janmaat and Cabella, with a smattering of highly talented youngsters such as Perez, Aarons, Armstrong and Abeid. There's not a great deal of depth, which is where buying 2 more at least should have happened, but otherwise.....are we all a bit guilty of dragging this all down too much?
It's not like we've ever won a cup, either, so the pedigree isn't there and - like it or not - the World we live in contains Chelsea, Man City, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool.
