Why did they position the microphones well away from the East and North stands?

There are times on the TV coverage you can hear that plenty are singing, but you could hear the coaches shouting over it because they're sat on the microphones.

I know they adjust it to make Old Trafford and Stoke sound like there's an atmosphere, but am I paranoid or are they trying to engineer a perceived reputation here?


If anything, the noise coming over means the atmosphere's not as bad as we think and probably better than a lot of other clubs.

I firmly believe this does happen. Stoke in particular, for some reason the media are obsessed by their percieved 'atmosphere' if you go they're just another set of fans but on telly it sounds way louder. It might help that they put 'Delilah' on the tannoys half the time.

Our atmosphere isn't as bad as people are starting to mae out you're right, people get hyperbolic about the slightest thing. We've had a reduction in noise, that doesn't have to make us the quietest team but some seem to think it does.

Sorry but the KC does lack atmosphere compared to Boothferry Park, that place felt like a football ground, the KC is pretty and a great concert venue, but hopeless as a football ground.

I think the atmosphere is much worse than the Taylor years and some of the Brown era and this is no doubt in my mind down to one thing - Winning.
We simply only sing when we're winning. Or if we come back from behind. The team have to play well and us as fans respond. It should be the other way round.
I remember on here arguing with fellow posters who were defending their right not to sing and as long as we have fans like that then the "Ultras" are dead on the ground.
Sadly.

As others have said, people who choose not to sing should sit in the South/West Stand. There's no point being in the East Stand and moaning about fans being passionate and trying to create an atmosphere - everyone knows full-well that the ES is the 'singing stand.'

The atmosphere at the KC has generally been ****e for the past few seasons, so I don't think the positioning of microphones has much to do with the perception of noise levels at the KC. The 'Ulltras thing is a great idea in principle, but it's lead to a lot of confusion as to what the actual concept is (other than creating a better atmosphere)

It hasn't. This perception is starting to get to me now. We've had one quiet year, which is directly proportional to the excitement of the football played. Over the years when when the KC opened to when we got promoted our support was brilliant, and got better every year as we gained more fans. The PL experience has sort of killed it a bit but it is starting to recover, and I'm confident that when NP gets them scoring again, and winning in particular, we will hear more noise at the ground.

The khey thing is not just quality of football or goals, but winning positions, we've been in so few winning positions at home games this last year there's nothing to sit and sing about, instead it's been edge of the seat, hope we nick a goal stuff. Everyone's attention is on the pitch and you can see they are so focussed on willing the ball into the net. Once we start winning home games and most importantly when we have a 2 goal lead at some point, the fans will enjoy it and start to sing a bit more.

I'm not denying it can get better, but be honest, during the two PL seasons it wasn't great. The promo season was decent for atmosphere, but was down-graded by lack of numbers (average attendance being around 17,500).

Of course the shocking home form last season had an effect on the crowd, but I maintain noise levels still should have been far better given the circumstances

Ideally everyone would sing regardless of what is going on on the pitch. All I'm trying to say is that the crowd is nowhere near as bad as people make out. One person says they think it's quiet so everyone has to jump on the bandwagon and say it's the worst atmosphere in the football league.

Couldn't really disagree mate. We certainly have a better atmosphere than some grounds in this league, and the 'Ulltras idea could be a success if it catches on
