Nico I'm sure wouldn't care for being a number 2 if that's all it took to be able to show his stuff in the top flight, would open more doors than what Mercedes are giving him at the moment. But with this new technical crew coming in maybe being Schumachers understudy isn't so bad for another year since he hasn't thought of carrying on after 2012....yet!
Originally my 'idol' was Prost, but I switched to Senna on lap 43 of the 89 Suzuka GP when Prost taught me the errors of having any person as an idol, they're far too fallible. Prost deserved what happened in 90 for his sheer hypocrisy. I'm not one to turn my eye from what I see, I'm no blind acolyte. In fact it's a similar situation, Prost (Massa) opens the door wide and invites Senna(Hamilton) up the inside, then steers into him. I've always been cynical of F1 since that abbortion of a decision to award Prost a title he didn't deserve. Although i was a Senna fan, he wasn't my favourite racing at the time, that was the guy who's my avatar. btw, I am in no way comparing either Massa or Hamiton to Senna or Prost as drivers, solely in their on track positions.
Massa is always dangling in the jaws of the 4th placed Mercedes team, either Nico or Michael is there to take him. Michael nearly had him lap 1 at the hairpin, close edge of the seat stuff. He needs a break though does Massa.
Yeah: from F1! Of course, as I've said in this thread a few weeks back: I expect him to be retained for another year by Ferrari; but his driving has been very very poor this season.
I actually like Massa, even despite his recent whining. But let's face it... Ferrari need to give Alonso a stronger wing man. If Ferrari plan on winning with Alonso they need a stronger car and a #2 that can take points from their rivals. Alonso was Stella today imo... He just needs the team to get it together.
"Stella"? - As in Artois? Well, if he can drive like that after a few beers, he really is something special!
Massa probably should be replaced. Ferrari will want a driver to take points away from rivals, but theres a danger that they'll be too good and start stealing points away from Alonso. Its a tricky balance to try and find a driver for.
i think they should pick a proven fast rookie - Perez or Hulkenberg, some one like that! Alonso will never be able to have a championship winning teammate straight away becasue he then goes in a huff - 2007 an example!
There seems to be growing whispers of Kubica to Ferrari in the last 24hours. Whether this is a nothing story everyone is jumping on or an actual possibility is yet to be seen ...
I noticed that in the BBC Gossip Column. If they are serious about Kubica, keeping hold of Massa is the best option. If Kubica is ready to race by next halfway through next season, they can keep Massa on board until then, which reduces the severance payment they'd have to give him, and he'll keep scoring enough points to keep the WCC ticking over. As Joe Saward commented, Ferrari have the resources to get Kubica race ready in a 2yr old car, before even considering replacing Massa with him. It'd be a bit tough on Massa, as theres no way he'd pick a drive up mid season, but I guess you could argue he's had his chances and failed to take them.
Pretty much anyone is a better option than Massa. Lets look at it this way because sometimes its hard to compare performances because of the relatively new points system In The 10-8-6 system Massa had 36 points (7 more than Rosberg, 70 less than Alonso) and in the one before that Massa has just 15 points (two more than Schumacher, 60 less than Alonso). This man is a waste of a good seat and im fed up of watching him.
Jesus Julius if these figures are true thats truly shocking , I agree with everything you've said what a waste no way should he have a 2012 drive in that ferrari . The guy's a joke is it true he will be the first ferrari driver since 1981 not to be on the podium throughtout a season .
