The ref had to book him. Of course the player wasnlt thinking straight, and frankly we would all have been conceerned if he hadn't gone absolutely mental, but if he hadnlt been carded it would have set a very didgy precedent. How do you decide when it is and is not justified. That doesnlt change the fact i think it's a silly rule though.
