Better player than most at Newcastle but he has a habit of doing things like today, was lucky when his red card last year got overturned. Worth the risk in the Championship where he can control games, not at this level. That said Spurs were an awful horrible bunch of cheats and it wouldn't surprise me if Marriner has Delle Alli and Harry Kane posters on his wall.
 
Always the same with Jonjo, doesn't know how to manage himself when he's not the best player on the pitch. Believe me when they line up he would be looking at Alli thinking "I'll play this kid off the park". Then when reality bites he can't deal with it.

Worst of all, i spent good money on this avatar. Selfish tw@t.

The only thing more disturbing about what he did for you guys today, which was disgraceful for someone privileged enough to be given the captain's armband, is the fact he was once allowed to wear an England shirt!

Shelvey is prone to make wreckless decisions. We've seen his stupidity a few times in the last couple of seasons. He costs us points and gives his team mates more to do

I really don't think that he'll grow out of this. Such a waste of talent.
 
Wouldn't go overboard. Stupid thing to do and typical of Shelvey. I've said many times I don't think he is all that good at this level and he is always prone to these petulant outbursts. Merino in and hopefully he can show him how to not give referees the option.

Have to say I didn't think it was a sending off and nor was Kane's. Football is just getting really soft. As usual the word stamp is used - let's get it right he deliberately trod on him for kicking the ball away. It's like watching two kids in childcare watching those two today. Kane went for the ball I didn't see the probably - heavy tackle but nothing malicious. Refs want involved the whole time. The media beat the drum how referees failed to nip it in the bud early etc etc. The result is you get these refs getting involved in the slightest bit of niggle. Like Lascelles and Alli. For ****s sake they are grown men let it go, I like a bit of niggle. Then all these stoppages for injuries - let the physio go on while game carries on like in rugby. It's ****ing pathetic. Nobody can tell it's more dangerous than carrying on with 18 stone animals running around you.

Maybe I'm just generally a bit disillusioned with football. It's a game for wimps in the men's game now.

You're seriously defending Shelvey's sending off? The ref did his job; it wasn't him 'wanting to get involved'. Are you just on the wind up these days because you come out with some guff at times?

It is a bit soft now but "going for the ball" is irrelevant it's how you do it. Kane was reckless and dangerous and injured our player putting him out of the game. It was a red clearly but showed how refs are influenced by who the player is before making a decision. Shelvey was stupid and dirty and also deserved to go. I like a harder game too but there is hard and there is reckless and there is downright dirty. Kane and Shelvey come under the last two.
I know this isn't new from what we have seen of Shelvey but is it just me doesn't remember him having loads of red cards before coming here?
 
Let's be honest, Shelvey got sent off because he's Jonjo Shelvey. It was incredibly stupid/avoidable, but petulant rather than dangerous. Kane stayed on the pitch because he's Harry Kane. If someone like Costa had done that challenge, he'd have walked. If Alli had stood on Shelvey, it wouldn't have been a red. Nobody can tell me otherwise.

Referee's are getting worse, the standard is dropping constantly as we saw on a host of occasions last season. The penalty decision against Liverpool just another example; we're talking about game changing decisions and right from the first weekend the officials are getting big calls wrong. Referee's have to start coming from the ex-player community.
