any idea guys?

my internet speed im getting while browsing etc is 8mb ,ive done various speed checks
but when im actually downloading something,it is poor and im lucky to get 100kbs,im used to 900+kbs

What ISP, and by downloading do you mean torrenting? Could be getting throttled on certain download methods.

Have you tried speedtest? You may experiencing high packet loss as well. Also which ISP are you with, because Virgin NEVER reach their advertised speeds.

With some Spanish company you lot probably never heard of

But about a month ago I was downloading at fast speeds,now it's poorer but speedtest is still saying 8 mb

Do you share your router with anyone? Because that can impact on speeds. Other than that I don't know what to suggest.

I've had bad experiences with Virgin Media in Newcastle before, but right now I can't fault them (on the 50Mb).
