Frankly I thought it did cheapen the whole thing, but at the end of the day the guy has got a bit of notoriety out of it, and probably make a few quid. Good luck to him. Pity, as he has probably done a lot of the club free gratis, so to make him leave is a bit shallow.
The Sun seem to be stoking the fire still, they've just announced that they've paid out a substantial five figure sum as a result of that bet.
All fun and fat frolics aside, it's quite right this is being looked into as it is 100% a betting scam.

If the Sun didn't want the chap to eat a pie during the match, they would have been well advised not to offer odds on precisely that outcome. They don't like it up 'em.
If I was Shaw I would take The Sun to court over this and make an attempt to suet.
