I would be very happy to sign either, but personally don't think we'll get either. We only enquired about Maynard, were probably quoted £4 million and Cortese decided to pursue other targets. Also allegedly we offered £3.2 million plus Mills for Sharp, but it was rejected. So it doesn't look like either will come unless their clubs quote a more realistic price.
We're lookiing at very serious money here. These players get to where they are usually with much smaller fees than the ones being talked about. Could we not buy talent and go about proving it ourselves? It's what financially sound clubs do when they want a very good player and a proven one costs more than they are willing to pay. Bournemouth bought their squad for sod all, but the players in it are worth a lot more than what they paid out. We have more extensive scouting to find hidden gems and an attractive club for players. It may take one very high profile signing to show our intentions, but I reckon our best business will be lower profile.
