Thought you might like this @Irishshako . A FB post from a comedian from my home town.....
"In the mid-90s, I was doing the warm-up for The Disney Club, Saturday morning kid’s TV, and it featured pop bands
Shakey was the guest on one show and he was an utter prick – moaning, difficult, and right grumpy
Some 6 months later, he was the guest again, and as he was late for the rehearsal in the morning, I stood in for him with his band’s approval, as they worked out lighting, cues, etc
In real life he has a rather strong Welsh accent, and I was “doing him” singing like that rather than the rather cod-American / Elvis accent he affects onstage, and the band were in stitches
Eventually, I look in the wings and there’s Shakey watching us
****!!!
He then takes my place and I piss off
Later, much to my surprise, he approaches me, tells me he thought my impression was hilarious and suggests we lunch together
I’m seriously surprised, and even more so as he turns out to friendly, witty, and great fun
Eventually, I expressed my surprise, and told him what an utter prick he’d been last time we met, and when he remembered the previous recording he explained what a nightmare of events had preceded him turning up at the studio. In fact, I’m surprised he turned up at all under the circumstances he detailed
I learned a BIG lesson that day
Don’t judge people on the limited meeting you might have with them, on one occasion – you don’t know what hell they’ve just been through
I hear people slag off stars and celebrities because they saw a bad 5 minutes of that person’s life – wrong!!
Similarly, don’t idolise someone cos you saw their “public good side” for 5 minutes – think Rolf or Saville!!!
Shakey was cool as fukk!!!"
