Has a chance of being best sing a long Christmas song, although I'm sure Roy Wood and Shane McGowan would dispute that. Obviously for me it's too mainstream and like virtually every other popular Christmas song has been ruined for me by shops having no imagination. I will always choose Little Drummer Boy as best Christmas song, have never heard a version I didn't like (although I'm sure they exist) Although my favourite original Christmas song will always be Greg Lake's I Believe in Father Christmas
I suppose the question would be which is the least worst christmas song I guess this one wins hands down, a true lyrical work of art.
Obviously I'm still sticking with Greg Lake , but there are very few Christmas songs that I dislike, be they more traditional or just pop. Unfortunately, in my opinion, radio stations and stores have little imagination, and thus like with probably anything that you are over exposed to, over time you become bored or apathetic too, depending obviously on the situation. On one of the many nights out over the last few weeks, when the drink has been flowing, I will have joined in enthusiastically in singing along to Wizard, Slade etc, but I'm unlikely to choose to play them at home. Of course I think it's fairly obvious that I have an unusually varied taste in music and even with popular non Christmas songs, I'm looking for adaptions as opposed to imitations. That said I have yet to find a version of Merry Xmas Everybody that distinguishes itself from the Slade version sufficiently for me to prefer to listen to that over the originally, although The Blood Sucking Zombies From Out of Space version did nearly make it onto my 24 songs posted on here 2 years ago
