Hopefully something will be done in memory of one of golfs greats at The Open this year. He was fantastic to watch in the late 70's and 80's and was always entertaining.

In one interview he even admitted that he was more popular in Britain than he was in his homeland. Sad he died so tragically young.

I shall never forgetwhen he became the Car Park champion in The Open in 1979 I think. And who could forget the 18th at St Andrews in 1984 when he holed that putt and went dollally!!

In that tournament he beat my favourite ever golfer Tom Watson who got himself in trouble at the 17th Road Hole.

Tom Watson, in my lifetime anyway, was the best golfer I have seen and he really should have won more majors than his eight in total. Alas he fell victim to the dreaded "yips" round about 1985 and that stopped his winning momentum.

Who is the best golfer that you have seen in your lifetime?

He was an absolute legend, a true great!

Please don't let this thread resort into shameless jokes at his expense as that what these general chat mob do normally.

The average life expectancy in Spain is 81. Seve Ballesteros lives up to his amazing reputation by coming in 27 under par!

One tries ones best to be intelligent and thoughtful on here and some people just can't help themselves by taking the pish.

It's quite sad really.

I despair, I really do.

FFS Holt get a grip, aye?

Inflation is at 4.5%, we’re heading towards an early 1980’s level recession, the country is utterly bankrupt, the NHS is a baw-hair from being privatised, petrol is nudging £1.45 a litre, Scotland have ****-all chance of qualifying for a major tourney in your grandchildren’s lifetime, the polar bears are ****ing homeless and have been seen raiding wheelie bins in Paisley….
It’s just a bit of light relief, eh? Something to bring a smile to folk’s faces ….

the best golfer of all time = Jack Nicklaus

Best golfer i have seen at their peak Woods.

It really ennoys me however when people go on about Tiger being the best ever, he is a great golfer but considering the changes in golf technology he can't be considered the greatest ever.

RIP Sevvy a true gent and will be sadly missed <ok>

Tiger Woods at his peak would be Nicklaus at his in my opinion.

Difference is Sevvy might not have been as good as Woods.....but I would much rather watch Sevvy round the course anyday than Tiger. Tiger will slump around looking miserable with no charisma on the other hand Sevvy full of life and character and people like to watch him - true golf legend
