"One thing to note is the bookies and two xG sites which I know of make the race for the final two play-off berths extremely tight. footballxg.com/leaguetablepredictions suggest that just six points might separate nine sides come May. Should add a caveat in that this is based upon only four or five results so perhaps wait for ten games played to digest their forecast".

Classic wumming yesterday from Ridiculous :emoticon-0137-clapp

He's not even any good at it!

Of course the race for 5th & 6th places will be tight - whether or not we are in the mix.
They're always tight.

These fools treat the pattern of every season like they've never seen it before, even though it never varies.
When was the last time 6th place was secured with a month to spare?
Never.
That's the whole point of the play-offs.

I won’t identify the culprit, but I see a certain person has transferred his boring obsession with Xg to Charlton Life ….only to be met with a less than enthusiastic reaction.

He surpassed himself.
Ridiculous must have forgotten about rambling on regards XG and described it more graphically than what he sees on XHamster.

The one time I really got under Hawtrey / Seriously’s skin was when I pointed out how few people ever Liked his Posts <laugh> he really didn’t like that.

He doesn’t read the room …very, very few fans give a tinkers cuss about Xg, yet he’s replicates his derivative Xg post, almost word for word, on another forum :emoticon-0120-doh:

As someone has pointed out ….the more shots you have at goal, the more likely you are to score a goal …it’s not complicated or rocket science. Xg is for nerds.

Not forgetting the time he likened you and me to Covid, a disgusting comment where he had to make a public apology.

My issue with him is that he basks in being a WUM on ITTV (he privately admitted to me years ago that his posts are tongue in cheek), but then DM’s the Mods asking for bans when he gets challenged on it.

"Both opta analyst and footballxg.com calculate a table based upon expected points. They also offer a prediction for 46 games. However, we haven't played nearly enough games for that prediction to stand up to scrutiny.

The point about xG is that it takes 25-30 data points per game, and not just the goals. It can therefore be useful to judge over ten games and compare vs:
- the competition
- previous seasons
- changes when there's a change in management, or players in/out due to transfers or injury

There will always be outliers, but most clubs will revert to their mean. If a club is outperforming xG then the choice is to ride out their luck, change approach, accept a downturn, or acquire / rehabilitate players.

In our case, Leaburn and Edwards are now available, and we require a win away to Stevenage or Bristol Rovers so as to stay in the frame. Should we win one plus our performances and xG improve then the bookies will perhaps place us back as one of the six favourites for a top six finish?

The point being that the bookies and xG are both independent of any Charlton bias, thus giving us a view which isn't distorted by our own views and emotions when watching the games.

What matters is that Nathan Jones needs to find away to create more, decent chances without compromising the serious progress made in defence. We've made some inroads with set pieces - whether one uses anecdotes or xG our attacking threat is roughly half our competition!"

*********
I am now certain he does believe all the above twaddle, he never posts on Charlton Life but could not help himself once he saw a thread on XG<doh>

The only data that matters is the league table.

It’s all there - goals for and against, wins and losses, goal difference, points.

Other than Kev Hawtrey & his equally long winded sidekick Bamber Mundell, I don’t know of one single football fan who ever discusses Xg.

Haven’t got a fuking clue what Xg is and don’t want to , as you say all the important info is in the league table

That lengthy Seriously Boring post can be condensed down to say XG tells us the bleeding obvious and as to the Jones needs to find away to create more without impacting the defence…. I mean thanks for that Sherlock.

I could always tell it was a Seriously Boring post without even having to read who the poster was

He states the obvious rather than give opinions.

The Sainsburys biscuit aisle would see him in there all day, he'd be looking at the XG on plain against milk chocolate, and own brand against Mcvities. He'd come out of the shop with nothing.

It's a shame a certain poster does not join our family for healthy debate.

Let's see where we are.
Our XG has improved.
Two points per game.
A top six finish.
Embrace the journey.

Kojak may be controversial but hits nails on heads a lot of times.

Hawtrey Bingo -

“With Miles and Edwardes poised to return” - 5 points.

“The target is 37 points after 23 games” - 10 points.

“Perhaps we might all consider purchasing an extra lounge pass or half time beverage to help fund the promotion effort “ - Jackpot.

New Hawtrey WUM Alert <yikes>

The second time today our favourite Carry On star has squeezed “box midfield” in.

It means nothing of course. Just like Sqwarka & Xg, but it will be amusing to see how long Charles persists with it. He’s read it on a coaching forum somewhere.
