Just thought I'd post about the dangers. Someone on here mentioned it a few weeks back.!! A couple of Sunday's ago my brother got bite in his garden. A day later his hand had swelled up quite big and his arm was going red. He ended up in Hull Royal for a couple of nights with early Sepsis. He was on a drip and they told him if he had left he he wouldn't be here so he was lucky. Fast forward a week and A guy I work with his son got bit by a European Hornet last Saturday whilst at Lake District. He thought nothing of it but started feeling breathless and unwell early Monday morning. His wife took him to hospital at 12pm. By 8pm he had passed away with Sepsis.. Shocking !!! Only 51. I got bit earlier and went immediately to Bransholme walk in centre and taking Piriteze straight away. They said any swelling just go straight to A and E. If anyone does get bit please don't just leave it!!
I get bit every year by something and it causes swelling (no punch line coming!) I’ve no idea what it is, but I’m allergic to something I assume If it’s near my hand it ends up looking like a blown up rubber glove! Must be different to sepsis? although I will bear it in mind Dreadful story about the bite in the Lakes
Be very aware of ticks - sheep- or deer-ticks - they can carry Boreliosis/Lymes Disease. They are increasing as the climate warms
A friend of mine when we were younger would often get bit and be in and out of hospital. They reacted badly to the bites as around it would balloon up. Think it may have been an allergy but they never left it and immediately went to hospital as they were warned it could have been life-threatening if left.
People should also be aware of scratches from brambles and whatnot when they're walking in areas with overgrown or poorly-tended vegetation
Spent last night/this morning on the piss in Fer Ark’s garden Flying little ****ers were biting everyone I expect A&E will be busy this morning
Good post Julian. Sorry to hear about that. I had blood poisoning a few years ago and presented myself at HRI to find myself in the operating theatre 3 hours later!
Apparently there’s a wave of horseflies down south that are causing sepsis through their bites. Hate them, when they bite you you know about it, **** wasps, they’re the real prick of the insect world.
Glad you're ok. It's scary the things you find out and really the public should be made a lit more aware especially in hot weather. Apparently there's quite a few people that are prone to severe allergic reaction. It kills 2 million worldwide every year and effects 9 million seriously They told my brother that if he had left it another day it could have been a totally different story. Even if you have to go and sit in A and E for 3 hours just do it.
I think most people after being bite develop a better positive reaction to bites . Vitamin D tablets are good as they boost your immune system especially in winter.
