Rodwell hasn't had an 8/10 game for us, nowhere near. At his absolute best he's a 7 and averages somewhere between 5 and 6.

I know you're talking hypothetically but the truth is he's a very average player and we always lose when he plays. It's not like people throw a dart into a scapegoat dart board and it landed on Rodwell. He offers almost nothing.

Oh I agree he's bang average mate, and I doubt he will ever be any better, but what I don't agree with that he's the 'go to' every time names are thrown around.

The whole team bar Pickford has been way short, nobody but Rodwell and the odd mention of Watmore get named.

    I don't agree with it.

The only player deserving an 8 this season for me would be Pickford

I disagree I'm making him more bad than he is. I credited him with improvement and even stuck up for him on here once he showed improvement, but they weren't world beater performance and he has visibly reverted back to not imposing himself on the game. 4 games of half form in two years and 10m, I could be more harsh on the lad because his return in value is utterly none existent.

Spot on, Catts and Larson have shown quality on rare occasions admittedly, but Rodwell never, reminds me of Tommy Miller.

I didn't necessarily mean you, it was more an observation on the general attitude to Rodwell. He's never hit any kind of form while he's been with us and he often goes missing, but he does hit good passes and make good tackles from time to time. That suggests to me that his technical ability is much better than he is given credit for (he wouldn't have played for Man City if he was a completely hopeless footballer) and his failings are more to do with a lack of confidence and therefore form. As he's the scapegoat, his confidence and form will never improve. I'd bet that if he left, he'd be one of those players who's form would improve massively.

I think he does get singled out in squad of dross but it's a simple matter of pecking order for me. He's going to keep slipping as players become fit unless he finds some special form.

But he said this when he came here from City, is it not that he does not work at it as much as he should, too much too early imo. He goes missing too much for me, I have yet to see him put 90 minutes in tbh. I would love to see him come good for all our sake's but how many chances does he need, for me we have been very accommodating in this respect, without any reward so far.

Doesn't help that he gets crocked clapping his hands.

Agree Sebs workrate is immense and hsi example and organisational nous will help our youngsters.
But Rodwell must be loaned out to a feeder league side for his own good - he is just way off the pace and needs match fitness - his latent talent is being totally wasted .
Danny Gosling who came through the ranks at Everton with Rodwell is good but got game time via a lower league path esp with Bournemouth not forgetting and the mags of course

A quick look at physioroom at it seems quite a few are set to return.

Seb. Catts. O'Shea. Mannone etc. With Borini only a week behind them.

    Squad will look healthier then.
