Possum
I think that the gap between the two sides will continue for a long while. Saints seem to epitomise how a modern team should function with a strong, team ethic and a conveyor-like youth academy. For their part, I feel Portsmouth have been brave in becoming a community club yet those in charge seemed to have struggled to achieve any stability let alone see the club return to the kind of position it should merit. I can't see any improvement this season and the longer you stay in this league, the harder it will be to escape. If I am correct, Portsmouth's last stay in the old division 4 was a coupe of seasons. I can see Portsmouth lingering in the new Division 2 for a long while, I'm afraid. Had the proposed academy been built in Titchfield and the money not squandered on players they could not afford, I wonder whether proper investment would have arrested their fall and sown the seeds for a recovery. Had the Pompey youth system produced players that other clubs coveted, they should not have found themselves in their current situation.
