So how long will it be until the SNP wind themselves up and have another go, or was that a one time only (as if I believe that) vote? Also will Alex Salmond be arrested, tried and without doubt should be found guilty and gaoled for treason and/or sedition?
UKIP reaction Posted at 07:39 UKIP leader Nigel Farage tells BBC Radio 4's Today: "I'm writing to Scottish MPs to say please commit from today not to vote or debate at Westminster on English issues." Twat..... what a joke of a politician..
Haven't they said it's a 'once a generation' vote? So guessing there won't be another for 30 years.... Glad common sense prevailed... too many unknowns for it to realistically win!
As much as the guy is an imbecile, it's a clever PR stunt. You can imagine there are many English voters out there rather annoyed that Scotland wanted to go it alone and have their own say in everything they do, so why should the Scottish MP's be allowed to have a say in what only relates to English matters! It will be interesting to see what powers are actually given to Scotland now... and how this whole thing affects how we see our own government.
A bit of a surprise that the traditional Gaelic areas voted No and Dundee voted Yes. No surprise Glasgow and West Dumbartonshire voted Yes. The best performance for the No votes were, strangely, the Orkneys and Shetlands.
I wondered about Dundee - perhaps it saw itself as the silicon valley of Scotland - certainly it has some high tech industry there. As for the other three - they are just old labour heartland. Shall we see Spurf tell us that 97% of the Scottish land area vorted NO and 99.3% of the Scottish coastline voted No
Lots of talk by our PM about an English parliament this morning. When's our referendum then? Funnily enough he forgot to mention that bit... Oh and Spurf - how do you like them apples?
I think it would be premature to think that this was a once only vote because circumstances can change. If we ever get to having a referendum on EU membership, and it appears that England could be dragging Scotland into the wilderness, then I would expect a re emergence of this debate because I do not believe that Scotland would want to calmly leave the EU with the rest of the UK.
What we have seen from our own government is that they were in blind panic for a while. Never has Westminster appeared so powerless in any situation as it has over the last week - this will not be forgotten. All of our major parties will have suffered some collateral damage (though not as much as if Scotland had actually broken away). I expect even more voter movement away from 2 party politics - hopefully not to UKIP.
But who else is there? I don't see any centre left parties sticking their hats into the ring. The problem with democracy is people have a terrible habbit of telling you what they think rather than what you want to hear.
I hope we get a change too... and not a little worried about the main party make up of an English parliament
I'm not surprised by the Orkney and Shetland vote. I have yet to meet someone from either island group who consider themselves to be Scottish. For them Edinburgh is as remote as London.
If the UK leave the EU then Scotland leaves too - by default. The only way Scotland could stay in is if England left the UK and Scotland took over as head of rUK
I am embarrassed to admit it but Farage was on TV this morning and I found myself agreeing with almost everything he said. Essentially he was saying that the UK now needs to completely review itself and be more fair - and not let tails wag dogs
