Of course it's nonsense - Scotland's application wouldn't be the same as a usual accession application and although technically it's enlargement it isn't really. Iceland was fast tracked because it pretty much met all the criteria (and the EU was gagging to get it in) so whatever process is faster than fast tracked is what would apply to Scotland.

The Turks invaded half of what is now the EU not that long ago. I'd imagine that there is still a bit of anti-Turkish sentiment in a lot of these states. That and the fact that Turkey actively clamps down on press freedom, their tax collecting is ****e, they have an Islamic government.

We'll let them join once they change the name of Istanbul back to Constantinople.

Aside from the misgivings of certain Member States, Turkey is miles off being compliant with some of the relevant principles required to enter (human rights, corruption, a range of animal and public health requirements etc etc etc.) Scotland won't need to do much at all to meet the criteria.

I don't know exactly what procedure Scotland would need to follow to join and it would seem that not even senior figures in the Commission are 100% certain (though in my experience senior Commission figures are regulalrly at loggerheads with each other anyway so it's not exactly unusual!). I can see quite a lot of feverish negotaions in the background if there is a yes vote. There are at least 2 Member States that might not be wildly enthusiastic about the prospect of Sctoland leaving the UK and joining as a Member State in their own right as it could theoretically have implications for the future for them as well so I'd guess there'll be a lot of pressure to try and do it without a vote. Although such an occurence would be unlikely this is unchartered territory so I would imagine there is scope to do something away form the normal accession process.

These are all personal opinions of course - I don't know exactly what the situation would be any more than anyone else.
 
It's bad enough they're having to ship up students from England to knock on doors and go leafleting without posting that s**te.

Edit: Sorry, my bad. Apparently it stretches all the way to Liverpool.
