I have run my own businesses for 30 years without ever doing as much as a VAT return I had staff and accountants for that. I am essentially a salesman. So fair play you have picked up on that, but even I understand the need for profit. What you may be missing is that there is more than one way to run a business. My staff were always well paid and treated with respect which I happen to think is good both as a human being and as a businessman. Happy people do a much better job for you.

The rest of your comment is way off the mark. Who is talking benefits? I am talking productive business like manufacturing as opposed to paracitical occupations like money moving.

We always discussed it and agreed that I was right in the first place.

As I'm still undecided (only because the Yesers are absolute ****s) I've decided to give my kids my vote.

They want to remain in the UK as my daughter likes going to London and my son wants a Team GB at the Olympics.

Now we need the Tories to get back in as they are offering better devo options than Labour.

Cmon Dave!! Bring it home!! Your old Granda Cameron would be proud of you, son!

    7am Friday.

There will be some exquisite beel from the losers. Accounts getting deleted all over the place and threats of violence.

It will be reminiscent of a Celtic defeat in the CL and Medro creating a thread about it.

I've been managing an online business for almost 3 years now on behalf of a PLC. I've massively upped the wages from the business I inherited (which was losing money - and now isn't), but that was after I got rid of all (literally all) the old staff and recruited people who were more experienced, almost all of them I've had to go to Britain and Ireland and bring them here. There's a marketplace of skills, and some skills are worth more money because they are in shorter supply - for instance we pay our computer programmers higher than our traders, because consolidation within the industry over the last few years has made traders much easier to acquire (and traders are used to working offshore so don't mind moving) - whereas it's a ****ing ball ache to get a decent developer to the island as there are development jobs everywhere, and they tend not to need to move.

Anyway this is the thing - we're not a charity, the people who get paid here are getting the fair market value for their labour, and they deserve every penny they get - there's no hangers on. There is no class warfare, I don't care if you are working class, black, a woman, an Ulster Unionist (we've got one of those! <grr>) - it's whatever skills you posses and whether they add to the utility of the business - if there is a marginal value in your labour. If we weren't borderline profitable I'd like to pay more to keep people happy (recruiting good staff is one of my biggest ball aches) - but I've to balance the books so it's not always possible.

This is almost certainly why I went from a young Lefty to a bitter old realist in the last few years - the concern you get from someone telling you "it's not fair I haven't got a pay rise this year" has to be offset by the concern that the electric bill is sitting there waiting to be paid. I now emphasise with the Government when they are in the same position with austerity.

Mick, how come bookies have No a clear favourite when polls have it neck and neck?
