Manny - I don't need an excuse. I just think this performance was an exception for the season. He has not driven well, it took a topsy-turvy race in the wet to show his skill.
Rosberg is fast on an empty track, I'll give you that, but Schumacher in the last 3 races really seems to have raised his game and looked more like his earlier years, and is now leading Rosberg in the points. Cantona said how hard it was to regain his match fitness when he hit 40, maybe it's just taken Schumacher that long to regain his 'race fitness'. tbh I can't see Rosberg winning unless he has the best car, Schumacher, on the other hand, is more likely to make something happen in a less competitive car.
Verbally abusive comments such as this do not add anything to this forum and are not in the spirit of good debating. With regards to your main point, yes Schumacher has more wins. However, at the current time and since they have been team mates, Rosberg has the better record. Peoples ability and skill can change with time, which I believe is the reasoning behind Cosi's view. Yes Schumacher has had a good race, but this isn't reason enough to dismiss the several times that Rosberg has outperformed him. It is also worth noting that since they have been team mates, Rosberg has been on the podium 3 times whereas Schumacher hasn't at all.
Wet weather races more than anything make the playing field level, true racers sharpen their senses and put their foot down. I am sorry but if you say a driver that does well in the wet is still bad in general, you have a problem and a screw loose, Schumacher may not be good in qualifying, but he sure as heck kicks the crap out of most drivers on the field. And if you look at the shot of him on the last straight on lap 70 behind Webber, the gap shows what kind of driver Michael is in a slower car. If Michael was in Rosberg's position, there would be 1000's of calls for retirement. Schumacher would have gained a podium, but he made fast laps instead, if he did gain a podium, in them conditions, your traps would be shut forever.
I've never said he is bad in general (meaning poor driver) but he is a bad character in general meaning a nasty piece of work !! He has certain skills and is good in the wet, but I still think he should go......I don't have a problem, but calling names shows you in a bad light. Manny you really must accept you have a myopic view and unhealthy adoration of the MSC..
I would agree with the comments made by Manny F1. Schumacher drove a fantastic race yesterday and hopefully this performance will make his doubters think again. On the intermediate tyres particularly he showed what great driving skills he still has. Once the track dried out and the team switched to the slick tyres, he was never going to hold on to second position simply because both the McLaren and Red Bull cars have far superior performance and it was shocking to see how easily Button in particular was able to pass the Merc. I would love to see Schumacher in a McLaren. He could certainly show Lewis Hamilton how it should be done. Well done to Jenson Button by the way. I have never been a huge fan of his but he did drive exceptionally well yesterday.
There have been glimpses of the old master, but the last few races are the first time that Schumacher has looked like truly justifying his comeback. Questions were being asked about his comeback and future a few weeks ago. They'll still be asked, but he'll undoubtedly finish the season now, something that couldn't be said with certainty a month ago.
Because it is obvious he can stay and provide much needed points to the team, even though he started behind Rosberg, he extracted the most out of the car and has been for the past few races, (before his engine legged it in Monaco).
What about your unhealthy adoration of Bergkamp mate, it works both ways, Schumacher has mellowed significantly as proved in the Canada preview with David Coulthard.
Using his name is unhealthy? You will not find 1 reference to the man's ability on any forum from me. thats it! I think I've had enough. You are on your own. Pointless trying to hold any discussion with you.
Ey, ey mate, you brought up things about having an unhealthy obsession about stuff, now stand your ground. I am talking about Schumacher on the thread "about Schumacher", if your going to cry... do it, I am just proud the guy I have always supported since I was young is now finding his feet again. I support someone, how is that unhealthy? , there are plenty of people on this forum that enjoy one particular driver or team, put up or shut up. I have the right to write as much as I want about his performance this race, whether you like it or not.
Nice comeback, but I reckon he has gone so we leave it here, he doesn't want to carry on the debate any longer, fair do's .
From BBC gossip column "Seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher has been voted Germany's greatest sporting figure of all time in a German newspaper poll, despite his low-key return to the sport. The Mercedes driver picked up 28% of the vote, with football legend Franz Beckenbauer in second and reigning F1 champion Sebastian Vettel in 10th. (Bild daily)" pretty good going there
