Having enjoyed building the R1, I thought I would do another bike.
This one is the Ducati 916.
The level of detail on these Tamiya kits is superb.

It seems a shame to have this much detail, and then cover it up with fairings.

My son bought me one for Christmas 2019, and I spent a few weeks painting and putting it together. Really enjoyed doing it, found it very relaxing and therapeutic. I've done a few more since, and will put some pics up if anyone is interested.
This was my first one though, and was quite pleased how it came out, and after todays result it seemed a good time to post.

I did that one in the 80's looks like you have used the plastic sails that comes with the model. I cut up some hankies and used thread to give them the rolled up look tied to the crossbeams but your right I found it very therapeutic

I did use the plastic sails....they look a bit naff tbh. I liked the look if it without the sails, but as it was my first one, I just followed the instructions.
If I done it again, I would do as you say....material, unfurled sails on the crossbars.

I use a small craft knife to get parts off, some tamiya extra thin cement to glue plastic to plastic (though sometimes use a dab of superglue if its a painted surface). All the ones you see here i painted with humbrol enamels. I have some extra fine brushes for detail stuff, and some wider ones for bigger areas. Small tweezers, side cutters, A4 cutting mat.....all come in handy.
The Tamiya bike kits have some screws, and also some nuts. A tiny screwdriver and spanner/socket comes in the kit though.
I started with stuff I had to hand really, but have accumulated various stuff along the way.....

Excellent stuff, cheers. I assume the paints are included? I've had a quick Google/YouTube and 'Revell' seems to be a popular brand of kit.

Some kits have paint included, but tbh, they're not very good. Some kits are quite small, and some quite big. The pots supplied are the same size (small), no matter the size of the model, so some kits there would be enough, others not.
The HMS Victory was revell, (£20) and came with paints, brush and glue. The R1 (£20) and Ducati (£20) were both Tamiya, and nothing included.

Cheers, I was looking at the Revell 'Warthog' plane. Might give it a bash. I need a hobby, this lockdown has got me going stir crazy.

As well as the kit that snaggltooth has mentioned if your eyes are anything like mine a desktop magnifying glass with a light is a handy implement for doing the small parts

Aye, my grandmother used to do a load of sewing, cross stitch, knitting and stuff and she had a very low tech one of these:

Next up was the Tamiya Subaru Imprezza WRC 99.
I was going up the caravan for a week, so done this one up there.
Interior detail....the buttons on the dash were painted with the end of a cocktail stick!!

I've bought the kids a few of the simple Lego kits but so far they haven't taken the bait and wanted to do any more. I saw the millennium falcon in Smyth's and was very tempted to give it a shot!

Ah **** mate.....i made a mistake on that. The HMS Victory didn't come with paints, my son had bought them separate, along with the glue and some brushes. He put them in the box, as it was a Christmas present.
Some do though....i done the Titanic, and that did....i never used them though.
Even if you bought the Victory, you could get away with about 5 or 6 colours @£2.00 each, some glue @around £3.00 and some brushes @£6, so maybe about £20ish.
