To say this is will be a contentious thread is putting it mildly. No Portmsouth equals no rivals and no rivals removes much of the spice on match-day. So a simple question, what can Saints do to help save Pompey?

For instance, do we have any (youth) players we can send out on a "free" loan so that they can get match experience (perhaps, on the understanding that they don't play against us on Derby Day due to conflict of interests)? Should we give them all the proceeeds from the derby match? Maybe we could run fan-collection buckets and donate the proceeds to the businesses owed money by Pompey, thus saving local businesses and cutting Pompey's debts.

I appreciate that there will be many Saints fans that want to see Pompey dead and buried and would cheerfully hold the shovel for the gravedigger. Nevertheless, For those of you who hate Pompey - and I appreciate that may be many readers - consider the benefits of saving Pompey. Cue chants of "You're only here, cos we saved you!" on derby day. And if we helped to save them, wouldn't that give us ultimately bragging rights and the high moral ground. After all, if there are Pompey fans who hate us, but what could possibly be more galling than having to come to us cap in hand to save them.
 
I'm not sure what we can do, but i do not want Pompey to die. They are our rivals, and we need them as much as they need us

I dont wish to see any club go under either but this is the Portsmouths doing and they should get themselves out of it.

This whole situation stems from society where we have a benefits system letting people get something for doing nothing...while everyone else plays by the rules.

They can go out of business if they cant put their house in order and play fairly - simple.

Any using any of our players - if it were to benefit them then why not, but I cant see how loaning players to them would beneift any youngster.

In fact, going further, we played our bloody youth team and got relelgated - why are they so different.

The 10 point paulty deduction they received was quite frankly disgusting - FA/Football League - hang your heads in shame.

Slightly related to this is my disappointment at seeing Reeves loaned out to Dagenham and Redbridge who are currently bottom of League 2.

Now I'm not saying that he should be loaned to Pompey, as I don't think a loan to another Championship club would suit, but surely for a young player who has been around the fringes of the first team for a few games this season there would be a better place for him to go on loan and gain some valuable, and competitive, experience.
 
I wouldn't like to see Pompey out of business, I just like to know they're below us. I could have a look at home to see if I've got any pennies in the sofa cushions, if that helps?!

On a serious note, I think raising money for the businesses owed money by Pompey is a great idea, I should think most of them are local businesses. I remember last time they were in administration, the BBC interviewed a printing company who do their programmes who said they were in danger of going out of business as they hadn't been paid by Pompey. And I know St Johns Ambulance also suffered. I'd be more than happy to donate to this, good idea. <ok>

You forget we were there once and I would have taken any help offered, even if it was from Pompey. As for the points deduction, what did you expect? They went into admin - league rules state if a club goes into admin, they get 10 points knocked off. End of conversation. It's nothing to do with the FA and possibly the reason why they didn't get more points is because the first time they went into admin, they were under the Premier League, which is a completely different governing body to the FL.
 
I don't want them out of business, just want them to lose every game.

Saying that, I genuinely think this will be the end of PFC
 
A choice between helping a club like Dagenham, who live within their means, who are a small community club that don't get any of the glitz and glamour money of the Premiership and the big leagues, a small business model that relies on stability rather than risk and the betrayal of creditors and local businesses, it's a local club that represents everything that football should be, and a local club that have a good set of grateful supporters...

or Portsmouth.

I know which one I'd choose. Ps, to all of you wishing for Pompey to survive, shame on you.

I dont forget we were recently in admin - but we played our kids/reserves and had the penalty.
How can a club go into admin twice in about 2 years only suffer a 9 oint and 10 point deduction - this is not in keeping with clubs like Luton & Darlington i think.

As for local firms, that is their business risk to deal with them. If you knew someone who had a terrible history of money problems and seemed to be in trouble again, would you lend them £20 if they asked for it - im sure I wouldnt - therefore they should have known better.

I ran my own business for a number of years and 1 large contractor took me under - this was my responsibility as I took the work whilst it was going - the good times so to speak...
 
It's almost getting to the point where I want them to go bust just so there isn't relentless Portsmouth threads on the Southampton board.

Besides whatever help we gave them wouldn't be greatly appreciated. I get the impression they would rather go bust than have our help.
 
We helped them last time they were in the crap,by letting them off paying for the tickets for the cup match.
This time i would suggest their fans can only buy tickets from us directly,so that we ensure we get paid.
I hope they survive until the end of the season,but would love it if they lost every match,and when they came to us on April 7th we absolutely smash them to send them down.
Sha la la, la la la la la.
 
Here here looking forward to that! I can also remember the vitriol from Pompey fans when e went into admin on the old 606 so sympathy from me.
