Today is of course back to grass-roots horseracing, but, it just feels a bit like the dustcart after the Lord Mayor's Show? :emoticon-0101-sadsm
Totally agree with you Swanny, so I generally like to play a game with the winning trainers and jockeys on media coverage called "Spot The Hangover".
It's often genuinely funny - and gives whole new meaning to the phrase "bounce factor".:emoticon-0136-giggl

what a change in the weather, arctic winds in Derbyshire with snow on the way, not a nice prospect for those hangovers who will be spending the rest of their euros at the Midlands national. Having caught up on the weeks comments I have to give a mention to Pilgrim who highlighted Penhill on Thursday, I had seen a review in the build up where someone advised not to overlook but had forgotten it with all the names flying around in recent weeks. Anyway thanks to Shattered Love and Penhill my 365 account didn't take to much of a beating but my liver on the other hand.........?
A fantastic week, roll on 2019

Right then - after a full week drinking every day (now I know how Ron feels) I'm topping out with paddys day shenanigans early doors in liverpool with my big kids .... only one bet today for old times sake - BENBENS at 33/1 ew in the midlands national .... oh and maybe a spread bet on Ireland ... and the score in the liverpool v way ford game ... doooooooohhhhh
Big thanks to everyone for some great tips as always this week and well done to Ron for the competition - chapeau

At Uttoxeter they're advising folk to avoid bringing their cars as the parking is largely flooded. The ground must therefore be on the horrific side of heavy. The Midlands National looks a very weak affair and although I think Silsol has a long distance chase in him I can't see him winning this of top weight even with the admirable Bryony Frost on board. Having said that I can't make much of a case for any of them but something has to win. So Themanfrom Minella @ 50/1 is my tentative ew pick. Pulled up in the Eider lto the trainer reckoned the drying ground didn't favour him. It was soft, heavy in place ffs! A slow plodder who jumps OK, likes mud with a low weight. Good luck all.

Peter Bowen's Pearl Swan catches the eye back over hurdles today (3.00 Uttoxeter). The former Paul Nicholls inmate has some decent form over hurdles (beat Grumeti in a Triumph Hurdle trial at Cheltenham only to lose it in the Stewards room) including a 4th in a 3 mile handicap hurdle at Haydock on soft ground off a mark of 137. Since then he has been chasing and has won 3 of his last 4 including a 3 mile handicap chase at Ffos Las on soft ground. Worth an e/w dabble with some 16/1 still available.

Western Climate in the M. National
Unexpired over fences. Good form behind Ms Parfois at Warwick. Good claimer aboard. 11/1

Had very modest bets on Bob Ford e/w and Billy Bronco e/w in the Midlands Grand National (3:35), plus an equally small R/F. The atrocious conditions could throw-up anything?

Happy saint Patrick's day me old muckers.I'm hanging after a mamoth session on the beer all the day yesterday so a quiet day in watching rugby and racing will suffice.

I like the sentiment not sure I'm keen on the defacing of her majesty! Have a good un mate.

It was a fantastic week's racing at Cheltenham, seemed more dramatic and enjoyable than for a few years, albeit the Irish swept most before them. I made a small loss but had some nice wins, Tiger Roll and Shattered Love amongst them. Native River's Gold Cup duel with Might Bite was a classic.

Midlands Grand National: Get On The Yager 7/1, Regal Flow 25/1 and Western Climate 11/1. Singles and combination f'cst/tricast.

REGAL FLOW <party> 16/1
