Good news but its a pity this wasn't announced before the window closed. We've been operating with our hands tied ( as have all the other clubs ). I wonder how it affected who we had as our targets? Might we have gone for Kevin Nisbet if we had been able to offer him what he was probably looking for, wages wise ?

They are incompetent fools, like Rodwell. Need removing.

Personally think the independent arbiters reason is bollox. Somebody has threatened them with a "scrap it" or your going to court. As normally happens with the EFL their arses have dropped out.

Hmmm wonder if the EFL were contacted by Swiss/French lawyers. This news just before the takeover confirmed? Coincidence?

Timing of this is unbelievable!! just over a week after you're not allowed to sign ayone, we tell you that you can pay them more!!

FWIW - I agree as posted above - there should be a salary cap but it should be definied upon the inccome of the club not a blanket for everyone. This way it is fair as a reflection rather than punishing to clubs like SAFC with a higher income and playing to (with all due respect) clubs like Fleetwood who make very little in relative terms

I personally think it was to keep Sunderland down in this division for another year for when the fans are let back into the ground so other teams can win the lotto. (Not really but it sounds good)

Bishopwearmouth cemetery gravediggers hut had the best collection of gentlemens comics I ever come (no pun intended) across. Round about the same time.

This is amazing news. My gut feeling is we wont go up this year but this gives us the opportunity to build properly in the summer with 10-15 new players being brought into the club.

If KLD is approved the board, Speakman and Johnson can actually sit and do a proper job with recruitment in the summer to finally get us out of this league whilst putting the foundations in place to build a team in the Championship

I’m not against a salary cap per se, but it needs to be across the board not restricted to the 3rd and 4th tiers in England. One of the joys of watching the NFL is that the salary cap gives fans of every club hope. As it stands there are only a few clubs in England with any real chance of winning the Premier League and the situation is even more dire in other European leagues.

Could help this season. Best free agents we can attract that won't disrupt the squad (keeper maybe). Also useful if we get a key injury we can replace too.

Most caps are inplace in competitions where there is no relegation or promotion though. It's a breach of fair trade in my opinion as you're making it extremely difficult for clubs to improve there standing and as such their profitability.

Add to that, most competitions with slary caps also have a draft system to assist in keeping the competition even

We won't have anyone going if we keep this up, can't imagine many of the ten thousand or so who cancelled last summer when Rodwell completely ****ed up with the non-refund statement going back after we crawl our way to a midtable finish

Unlike the Fit and Proper owner of Wigan who just gambled on the club and made himself disappear!
