There's salary caps in sport around the world.

Unless this one is more stringent than all the others... I think the PFA are full of ****.

I agree - but for me the main problem here is that it only exists in a couple of divisions.

If they were going to put it in place across the pyramid gradually decreasing, you could see the logic. But having a cliff edge from championship to league one, is just crazy, and will result in lots of players finding it impossible to find jobs in a few months.

Karl Robinson came out when it was introduced and said anyone who is promoted from league 1 now is just a sitting duck

I think a cap is the right idea, but it should be as a percentage of income/turnover not just an arbitrary amount across the board.

Absolutely. And then there should be some form of multiplier applied for expected turnover. So if a team gets promoted to the championship there should be a ratio that allows their salary cap to be set at a percentage of their expected turnover in the championship rather than in league one.

cleverer people than me need to come up with it :D

A salary cap is fine but if its all about stability it should be based upon A percentage of turnover for each club. Also how could you justify a stringent cap in L1&2 and no caps in the leagues above?
2 options for me, either do it based on income or apply as tight measures on the championship and PL, which will never happen, otherwise those current 44 clubs have an unfair advantage.

The salary cap is there to prevent owners gambling with money, where if they fail, the club's future becomes threatened.

If they do the fit and proper owners test effectively, there is no need for it.

At the very least though it is insane to have the same cap for every club regardless of their revenue. May aswell make it a franchise system where you take turns picking available players if that is the case.

It makes it virtually impossible to formulate a plan for the Championship if promoted ...

    .... it's idiotic.

Clubs could still go under with a salary cap.

strangely this is only relevant to us if we don't get promoted anyway. but it's good news for if we don't

Another case of the EFL interfering in things that are none of their business ...

... as I said months ago it's restraint of trade.
