Had to pop by and offer my condolences and commiserations - puts football into perspective - still maintaining a feint hope that they will find the life raft with a couple of cold, but otherwise unharmed, blokes in it - but doesn't look good. All the best
Sorry Mathew, a dinghy would only last a very short period, infact in those waters they could end up 50 miles away from the crash site within a few hours.
I doubt they even survived the impact personally, there was no emergency radio shout, I think the plane probably broke up mid-air. Single engine aircraft over the bay of Biscay in winter at night is a pretty risky way to travel.
Unfortunately you're probably right in everything you've said - except it wasn't the Bay of Biscay. A flight plan over open water in the dark on a cold winters night in a single engined light aircraft known to have "icing up" history seems a very bad decision.
For the absolute life of me, I don't understand why proper transport wasn't arranged, not a crappy one engine death trap!
Totally agree Jay. Seems like City were prepared to pay for a commercial flight probably via Paris or Amsterdam for a connection to Cardiff. However now is not the time for recriminations. Everyone needs to know exactly what happened and I only hope the full story will come out.
Sadly there will be recriminations and questions asked as unavoidably legal and insurance issues will be raised such as how can City recoup the money paid (not knowing the precise terms of the contract).
I know, having experience in marine survival training that is true but I think for me to say any different at the time would have been crass imo
True, atm you have a £15m hole in your accounts, can't see that being paid any time soon, as you say, the quesion of liability will have to be sorted out first, and who knows how long that will take, they'll have to find the wreckage frst
So very sad to follow what has happened. It looks almost certain now that a young man with talent has lost his life. I have loved football for over sixty years, but I do not love seeing people die. Having spent so much money for a player who gave you hope, it seems cruel in the extreme to have him taken away like this. To have hope and then have it taken away before you have even had the chance to see him play is not something I would wish on anyone. I hope that all of you who I see on here can come to terms with a truly awful event, and may the club find the right way to deal with it.
Search has resumed. Rescue team are planning a search of Burnhou island where flares were spotted on the morning of 22nd Jan. Burnhou island is supposedly an isolated, very lonely island that is off limits due to it being a nature reserve. I think an exception should be made to search the island by foot!
Next step is sending in dive teams to search for the missing plane. That will not be arranged by the S&R team, will be done privately whether someone wants to pay to have the plane salvaged if it's possible. Closure is needed in this situation firstly, for the families of both Emiliano and Dave and secondly, the fans of both Nantes and Cardiff. Terrible situation and awful news. Well done to the S&R teams, they done all they could.
