I dunno, they've done stuff like change the official twitter handle from @officialsaints to @SouthamptonFC. I thought that was to go for a more professional image, but this hashtag toss doesn't exactly follow suit. Who knows.
It's only a hashtag on a bunch of seats. It's not like it's a big ****ing sign plastered on the side of the stadium. Won't effect me on match days so I don't really give a ****.
Saints fans will honestly complain about anything. It makes no difference; however it will get people talking and keep saints even more in the media eye. It's clearly just a big publicity stunt. As someone said, it's better than having a sponsor like most clubs.
I have never, ever seen such a fuss about something so utterly unimportant (well, since I last went to the Southampton Facebook page that is.....)
The fact that this has caused the biggest meltdown of the new season makes me very happy. Not much has yet gone wrong!
Ah I see, thank you. I have little or no knowledge of twitter, other than it seems to be an outlet for low brow self indulgent celebrities/famous people.
It is unimportant, but the club seem to think its massively important. "Big news coming!" "FIRST club in the uk to do this" blah blah. So who is insulting who's intelligence?
Then why have any words written on seats? This is possibly the biggets storm in a teacup I've ever seen on this site - it's a hashtag, so what? When all teams have it, we'll be pioneers.

Marketing departments exist to promote the club as loudly as possible. There's no doubt to an extent it's working, as in terms of media profile we're making progress. The big name/big character signings like Osvaldo of course work, but it's all part of the bigger machine that's trying to turn us into (and I hate the expression) a 'big club'. Getting annoyed about this is tantamount to getting one's knickers in a twist about a stranger wearing odd socks.
Promoting a place where Saints fans can go to discuss and share views on Saints for free, and get their own views seen more widely, subsequently helping the club gain more online visibility. It's hardly a stadium rebranding. Arguably, the word Saints already promotes the club, as would the term Southampton FC.
