I think Fletcher has been superb in recent times. He was a stand out player for both Wolves and Burnley, whilst they struggled in the league. I always saw him going to Everton and being a top player, or atleast a club higher up the league than Sunderland, who have done well to get him.

Think we need a right back. Not convinced by the nipper young who plays for the u21s.
Richardson may want to move on in the summer with limited opportunities.

If we're to continue setting up like Chelsea with 3 attacking midfielders in Lallana, Ramirez & Puncheon then we need back up.
Unless MP can convert Mayuka or Lee

Joe Allen is another ridiculous signing, but note that once again it's Liverpool. Saintmagic makes a good point about Milner and Bent as well, but I think we have to put the blame on idiotic clubs rather than the market.

Joe Allen's an excellent young midfielder, his form's dropped off a bit recently admittedly but he's been consistently very good for the last few years. £15m is a lot of money but that's what happens when a player is in demand and his club don't really want to sell him. You have to pay the going rate.

Alex Crook on Twitter:

"Daily Mail say Christian Gross agreed to replace Adkins in November before late u turn. Be thankful for small mercies #saintsfc fans"

An interesting sub-plot for Southampton fans is the potential summer arrival of talented Espanyol midfielder Joan Verdu, a creative playmaker widely regarded as the Catalan club's best player. Verdu, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season and has not agreed a new deal, with the club struggling to find funds to pay him as they seek to reduce their debts. A host of clubs across Europe are known to be keen on securing his services for nothing in June. Considering his history with Pochettino, it's fairly safe to add Southampton to that list of suitors.

I'm hearing the same thing from Spain, may not have to wait till summer, also Alvarez young left sided fullback

I thought the three out of contract players are midfielder Joan Verdu, defender Juan Forlin and the goalkeeper Cristian Alvarez.

Yeah I thought it was the goalkeeper Alvarez as well.

To be honest I'm not sure we need any of them. Admittedly I don't know how good any of them are (apparently Verdu is good, but we don't need another playmaker do we?), but since Espanyol have been selling off anyone with any value for the last couple of years I don't imagine they are quite up to the standard we expect.
