Always a difficult call, but perhaps Butland needed to move in the summer. Others would say he needed games under his belt and was right to stay put. I doubt that struggling at the back of our defence at the beginning of the season would have been good for him. Didn't help Gazza, did it?

Well if we buy, play him, and he makes mistakes or doesn't perform, then I can't see that he could have any complaints at subsequently not getting those games that he wants when we drop him.

Would like a club bringing in Claridge and asking him if he had any contacts at Southampton <laugh>
 
Im one that seriously hopes that we don't sign butland, we have other areas that need improving before we get an average keeper in.

Boruc has been great the last couple of games
 
Butland's CV is a lot more impressive than Gazzaniga's so far. I could understand if you feel there are other areas that need strengthening first, but he's a bright prospect and future England goalkeeper.
 
I haven't seen Butland this season, but I've heard he's made a few mistakes. He was massively overrated in the summer - I saw him playing for GB when everything he did was 'sublime', when in reality it was average goalkeeping. I don't think there's a huge difference between Gazzaniga and Butland, so signing Butland now would be a waste of money as there isn't room for two 'project' keepers. Butland seems like he was out first choice goalkeeping target in the summer, but we went for Gazzaniga because Birmingham were asking for silly money; Boruc looks set to be our number 1 from now on, and I think he looks capable.
 
Pochinetto said something about being happy with the squad as it stands. I wonder what that might mean for us in the last couples of weeks of the transfer window.

If he played for us and made mistakes he'd probably be costing us points. I don't think he will sign for us without a guarantee that he'll play and I don't think he's good enough that we should give him that guarantee. We've only just sorted the goalkeeping problem and the fact we think Butland might make mistakes is enough to suggest we shouldn't sign him.

I think that was more that he couldn't really say anything else. If he had said that we need half a dozen new players then it wont do anything for morale (although isn't that what Cortese said in the summer? :P). If he has been scouting us like he says he has then he should know where he wants to strengthen and have a rough idea of the targets. I would be dissapointed if we brought in no one else but I would be disappointed if we signed Butland... We just don't need him right now.
