CB's for me would be out of........

Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik - Rennes £6 million
Aymen Abdennour - Toulouse £4.5 million
Angelo Ogbonna - Torino £10 million
Douglas - FC Twente £7.5 million

Just estimates according to http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk

Would be happy with any of those. Ogbonna would be a dream, I'd probably celebrate us getting him more than I did us getting Gaston.

Probably best to ignore that site. Danny Fox worth as much as Lallana, Jonno Forte worth as much as JWP and Guly worth more than Morgan. Maybe not.

Yeah, it's mostly just previous fees, media rumours and guesswork that goes into the 'values', and not giving much of a **** about putting any thought into Saints' players apparently. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Think Fonte will regain his place, he's looked impressive of recently. Very consistent :)

If Fonte and Yoshida can continue to improve with more solidity in their full-backs and keeper and less errors as a team, then getting a new centre-back or two may not be the necessity it was looking like. However all of those players would be improvements regardless, Ogbonna is one of the best young centre-backs in world football, and probably the very best already not at a big club, and Kana-Biyik and Douglas are also very fancied and looking set to move. Although Douglas says he doesn't want to leave in January but at the end of the season.

Agreed Mr. Nice I think when a player is bought for a certain amount of money they just put that as their market price.

Well there's no way for an outside party to value a footballer. They're worth whatever their club wants them to be worth.

Agree Mikey, just if we were to get any little niggles then our squad is very thin in that position, just Jos to fill in at present. We will definately strengthen I would of thought.

I don't doubt we'll bring someone in. I think the way our defence plays between now and January will decide whether we shell out 10 mill and 50 grand a week on someone like Dawson, or whether we find a young lad for a couple of mill to come in and add some depth behind Maya and Fonte. Would be amazed if we didn't bring someone in though, unless Stephens makes a big step-up in a short period of time.

Unless someone unbelievable appears that can't be missed (unlikely in a January window), I think we will try for loans. Less risky. Be good to get someone who is playing for a permanent contract rather than just biding their time before returning to their home team.

On Ogbonna

He was playing against Roma on ESPN last night looks like an outstanding prospect. Good postioning, physically strong and a good range of passing. It was mentioned that the chairman of Torino has put a 20 million Euro price on his head. May be a little more than we would be willing to spend, although I'm sure the Don could make him an offer he can't refuse.

Picture the scorn:
Torino chairman walks into his office. At that moment the chair ehind hos desk starts to turn slowly on its own.

Revealing Nicola Cortese..., one leg over the other flicking off a small spec of dust from his silenced pistol...

And smiling....

We won't get Ogbonna, he could choose pretty much any team in Europe.

Not really a rumour, and we're equally unlikely to get him, but Beckham's leaving LA Galaxy in January, could he do a job for us?

still think kjaer for me - think he would fit in well, would probably be available on loan with an option to buy, is a good age and has a point to prove having just lost his way a little bit.

Think how many teams across europe will be persuing the on form, young centre backs previously mentioned - I have my doubts whether they would want to come in to a relegation battle.
