I believe someone said we had a bid accepted for Ogbonna in the summer? Wasn't sure whether to take it seriously or not though.

It was me :), bid of 12mil was accepted only for his club to change their mind last min.

Perhaps we could look to the Scandinavian leagues for a CB.

It seems to me, we have always done well with an overseas CB from the Northern Countries, and while they may not have PL experience, the mentality and style of football is so similar to ours, that they would adapt very quickly. Plus, they would be keen to move to a PL club due to the wage differentials..

Anyone thinks this wouldn't fly, just look at at Sweden's performance against England last week..

I mentioned it earlier but Jores Okore from Nordsjaelland (the little Danish team in Chelsea's CL group) looks a player and a half. Meets all the physical requirements as well as looking to have great determination (anyone remember him against Chelsea first half when the ball was knocked far post towards Victor Moses in acres of space, Okore made up 4 or 5 yards in all of a second to leap and head the ball clear inches away from Moses nodding it in, and took a massive knock from Moses and the post in the process?) and is very good with the ball. Seems like he could be a cut-price Ogbonna to me, very similar. He's on the radar of a lot of teams and says he wants a move, but Nordsjaelland have got him wrapped up and aren't letting him go for a pittance, supposedly want 5 or 6 million for him which may ward off some other teams from an unproven player but I'd be happy for us to take a gamble on him.

This very much just matching a club with a player with no connection whatsoever, but hopefully our guys have their eyes on him!

Maybe we could bring Killer back? :p

Yeh good shout

He was outstanding against Chelsea seems a good all rounder and like you say not afraid to put himself on the line. Haven't seen enough of him to know if that was a one off performance but definitely worth a look at. I think I remember the commetators saying there was a lot of top European clubs looking at him and that although he is African he plays for the Danish national side, I may be wrong on that.

Quite right, he is Ivorian born but has about 5 caps for Denmark already despite their strength at CB and him only coming into the Nordsjaelland team last season. He was already on some radars but him performing on the vastly bigger stage of the CL has concreted him as somewhat of a hot prospect I think. Possibly a bit too hot for us, but you never know and like I said I hope we are aware of him and looking into that option. And he's very much on the market so getting him in January is not out of the question by any means. Wages would be reasonable too probably unless we had to try and tempt him away from bigger suitors, whereas the likes of Dawson, Ogbonna, Kana-Biyik, Douglas etc. would all probably be looking for a payday.

Okore would be a great signing for us. I can't really see it happening unless he has his eyes on the Premier League (and we have our eyes on him). He's only 20 so I'd be happy for us to take a punt with up to 10 million considering how good he is and potential to improve. Can't see Adkins being given much to spend however after how much he got in the summer so he'd need to get an experienced utility player or another defender on a free or very cheap as cover if he made a relatively big signing like Okore in January.

I believe he is very much eyeing a move, he has drawn interest and I believe his agent said that he is happy to move and they are just waiting for an actual offer. And Nordsjaelland are resigned to losing him but want a decent amount of money, again I believe I read about 5 or 6 million. I hope that due to his youth and being unproven, that may steer some teams away from taking a punt on him for that much. But given our needs and his talent, like you say, I'd be happy for us to pay anything up to about 10 million.

He'll probably be a Chelsea player in January though and we'll end up tempting Sol Campbell out of retirement and paying him 100 grand a week.

Lots of FM13 players being mentioned! What about Kara!? Senegal international who can play CB!

I reckon we should sign Okore and Kjaer, two Danes at the back, would be great!

Kara is off to the mighty Genk of Belgium, already wrapped up.

Both Okore and Kjaer would be good signings for us I think. Although Kjaer has questions over him, was meant to be one of the big talents but then his attitude has been called into question and he is fairly mistake prone as far as I know, and the last thing we need is another mistake prone defender. Would probably be an improvement for us regardless though.

Raphael Varane from Real Madrid seems like a good loan deal. He is 19 and isn't breaking into the team under Mourinho. I saw him on TV when I was in Spain and looked like an amazing prospect

Another long shot, but unfortunately he's involved just enough to not be loaned out. He's nailed down 3rd in line these days behind Pepe and Ramos and ahead of Albiol, and gets games in cups etc., so don't see him getting loaned out to anyone especially lowly Southampton.
