You can try to rationalise it all you like, but the treatment they get is out of order regardless of their ability. Your opinion is that De Ridder and Martin aren't good enough, other people think that about Boruc and Rodriguez. It all seems very subjective to me. No-one ever says Jack Stephens or Ben Reeves are **** but they're clearly not good enough for the first-team either (yet).

No-one is suggesting Martin should be first choice, but if somehow he gets picked he needs to be given support like any other young player breaking into the side. Imagine if Shaw had been booed when breaking into the team, I don't imagine it would have helped his development.

Every player at the club needs support, and frankly someone like De Ridder could run past 11 players and backheel the ball into the net and he'd still be described as hopeless.

I never get this argument that Adkins doesn't seem to like him. He gave him a new long-term contract a season ago.

You describe it as if people are calling for their public execution - all I've seen of Martin is people saying in here they hope he never plays for us again. Why are you taking issue with this? If we're in a position to play him again, either we're dangerously low on defenders or we're in a league where he won't be hopeless. What's wrong with hoping neither of those situations come about?

Of course it'd be bad if Shaw was booed, and it will be bad if Martin was booed, I wouldn't deny that. Hoping Martin doesn't play for us, however, is a very reasonable thing to want. Hardly "out of order" to think, "oh, I hope we don't play Martin because he's ****."

And if De Ridder did run past 11 players and backheel it into the net, he'd be a hopeless player who had one incredible moment. If he put in regular acceptable performances, then he'd not be.

 

Or maybe he's improved to the point where he merits selection, I'd prefer to hope for that to be honest.

You're talking about booing like it doesn't regularly happen. That is "out of order".

As for De Ridder, he plays so infrequently we're hardly in a position to judge him. Do you think Tadanari Lee is hopeless as well? Because apart from one good goal what has he ever done for us? Looking at it objectively, considerably less than De Ridder.

The u18s play Chelsea today in the elite group. As well as the lads from this year, there are also a few lads from the u16s who have featured and are due up next year. Josh Sims and George Mells have been 2 names that have caught my eye. The latter I believe is very highly rated. Both have played and scored for the u18s, so they feature on the highligths.

 

Actually it's pretty obvious that nearly every time he plays he does jack ****. He's produced 1 moment of quality since he arrived at Saints, and that was the goal against Reading. There's a reason why he doesn't play often - he is ****.

 

Bottom line guys is if they are still i the first team squad Nigel thinks they are good enough!

 

I don't see the problem?, as long as they aren't booed when they play it's fine. People have different opinions and should be allowed to say them (to a point). In my opinion Martin, Seaborne, Chaplow, Dickson, De Ridder, Forte and yes Reeves aren't good enough. If they played and some how had one brilliant game I'd still think the same, every player no matter how **** can have their day or moment.

 

Doubtful, considering his performances for Crystal Palace were abhorrent, but if he ends up being good enough for the first team, then wonderful! It's not like that'll never happen, because a few people on the internet hope he doesn't play.

My characterisation of your position is as accurate as it could possibly be - you've yet to point out one example of "out of order" conduct, besides possibly saying "Booing might happen!" Yeah, that hypothetical situation is hypothetically unacceptable. What do you want? Do you want everybody on here to all play along by pretending he's really good and excited for the possibility of pitch time?

De Ridder played regularly last season and was terrible. He must have played over thirty times for us by now, and has had maybe one or two reasonable performances. Lee has only scored one but at least played reasonably well in other performances.

I'm really struggling to understand what you're taking issue with. A few people (maybe three or four) on here have said they either hope he won't play for us again, or don't think he will, and you're saying it's out of order?! Sure, there are more negative comments about De Ridder on here, but all of them justified, and I've never heard booing when he comes on. I don't know what you're trying to make a point of.

 

Who else do we have atm?, it's more needs must then actually want them.

 

Not being good enough for Saints doesn't mean you are crap...just means we are a good side. Have to add the only player I really struggle with is de Ridder...the fact that we have to play him makes me worry about the depth of the team. Doesn't mean I wouldn't cheer him on if he tried to run at the opposition...evry dog has his day.

 

I'm clinging to the same hope. All news on Astori and Coutinho on twitter and the web seems to have stalled, i'm hoping this is because Cortese has told them to "shut.uppa.your.mouth" until they are in a Saints shirt!

 

Might see Targett...said to be a target of big teams (pardon the pun). Wonder what he's like as a player...he was interviewed on OS so must be considered an instrumental player.

 

Not good enough and some of them are greedy ****ers as well like Dickson who is happy to go out on loan knowing full well we will have to still pay his high wages.
